Photos\u00c2\u00a0by\u00c2\u00a0Kim\u00c2\u00a0Stevens.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission along with various aviation associations were quick to recognize Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) for his many contributions following his announcement last week to retire from Congress on January 3, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4872-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21234\" width=\"315\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4872-edit.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4872-edit-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sen. James Inhofe<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSenator Inhofe has been the central figure in promoting and\nsupporting general aviation on Capitol Hill for the last several decades,\u201d said\nGrayson Ardies, State Director of Aeronautics for the Oklahoma Aeronautics\nCommission (OAC). \u201cHe\u2019s been equally instrumental with ensuring aviation has a\nstrong foothold back in his home state, Oklahoma, where he uses the Airport\nSystem on a regular basis.&nbsp; Not a week will\ngo by in Oklahoma where we won\u2019t hear of an airport pancake breakfast, weekend\nfly-in, or just a regular community visit that Senator Inhofe has flown into.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AOPA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Jim Coon\nsaid that Sen. Inhofe is best described as a leader, a gentleman and a pilot.\n\u201cGeneral aviation is, in large part, growing and vibrant in the United States\ntoday because of the senator\u2019s passion for flying and his years of dedicated\npublic service to help make it so.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inhofe has made numerous contributions to aviation\nthroughout his career, which spans almost three decades, that have helped the\nGA community as well as those in the commercial aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inhofe was on the front lines in the fight for Bob Hoover\nand other aviators with his 1999 legislation that came to be known as the\n\u201cHoover Bill,\u201d which allows FAA certificate holders to immediately appeal\nemergency revocations to the National Transportation Safety Board, after the\nFAA made the decision to revoke Hoover\u2019s medical certificate without cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2546-edit-2a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21235\" width=\"270\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2546-edit-2a.jpg 506w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2546-edit-2a-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sen. James Inhofe, left and Grayson Ardies.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson said the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission commends\nSenator Inhofe and his leadership on a multitude of aviation issues over the\nmany decades he\u2019s served this great Country and the people of Oklahoma.&nbsp; \u201cFrom introducing and passing the Pilots Bill\nof Rights and Third Class Medical Reform, to supporting the Federal Contract\nTower Program and Aviation Workforce Development, to advocating for funding at\ngeneral aviation airports across the Country, Senator Inhofe will be remembered\nas Mr. Aviation to all of us at the Aeronautics Commission.&nbsp; We wish him well in his retirement and hope\nto see him flying across the blue sky of Oklahoma,\u201d said Grayson.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBAA President Ed Bolen said the lasting impact of Sen.\nInhofe\u2019s accomplished political career \u2013 especially for the betterment of the\nnation\u2019s aviation infrastructure \u2013 is testament to his dedication to public\nservice and commitment to principles that will continue to shape this country\nfor years to come. \u201cThe general aviation community is proud to call Sen. Inhofe\nnot just a friend, but a champion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an accomplished aviator, Inhofe brought a deep\nappreciation and understanding of the general aviation industry to crucial\npolicy debates on Capitol Hill. Inhofe\u2019s passion for aviation has forged\nsignificant gains for the sector, including the groundbreaking legislation that\nled to the direct passage of the General Aviation Revitalization Act, which was\npassed during his time in the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NATA President and CEO Timothy Obitts noted that Senator\nInhofe\u2019s skill as a legislator and his keen understanding of the value that\naviation provides to rural America helped shape, maintain, and safeguard the\nvibrant general aviation landscape that we enjoy across the nation today. \u201cThe\nSenator and his staff worked hand-in-hand with aviation stakeholders,\naddressing our industry\u2019s needs\u2014from infrastructure to workforce\u2014every step of\nthe way. As we wish the Senator all the best in his much-deserved retirement,\nwe recognize his departure will leave a tremendous void in our nation\u2019s capital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSenator Inhofe has long said he was a family man first, aviator second, and politician third,\u201d said Grayson. \u201cHe lives by those words each day and you see that throughout his support of aviation in Oklahoma.
