Dabney was born and raised in Victoria, Texas, where he\nspent his weekends at the feet of World War II veterans and plant workers in\nthe coffee circle at the local grass strip, Ball Airport. He earned both his\nBachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees in education at Baylor\nUniversity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since 2010, Dabney has served as adjunct faculty in that\ninstitution\u2019s Aviation Science program, teaching freshman and upper-level\ncourses and serving as an assistant chief ground instructor. Before leaving for\ncollege, Mr. Dabney soloed in his family\u2019s 1946 Piper Cub, and he is now proud\nto be the caretaker of that airplane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An active flight instructor since 2009 and a Master Flight\nInstructor since 2013, Dabney and his wife of 17 years, Alisa, owned Waco\nFlight Training in Waco, Texas. He prides himself on training staff instructors\nto marry \u201cold school\u201d stick-and-rudder flying to modern pedagogy and considers\nbuilding the general aviation community in his area to be an essential part of\nhis mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dabney is an active NAFI volunteer in multiple capacities,\nincluding serving on the Master CFI reviewer board, leadership on the volunteer\nteam, and assisting with MentorLIVE production. In addition, he is a proud\nLifetime Member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. When he\u2019s not flying\nor teaching, Dabney and his wife love to travel and share their passion for\nsmall business ownership with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Observing the overlap between running a flight school and a\nsmall business, he sees similar skillsets he can bring to NAFI. Since most of\nhis current professional life involves training teachers, Dabney puts a heavy\nemphasis on mentorship. Since mentorship is part of the NAFI strategic plan, he\nwill participate in an area where he can make an early and lasting impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aaron has a combination of skills,\nexperience, and enthusiasm that will benefit NAFI in our mission to promote\nflight instruction excellence via education, mentorship, and advocacy. Aaron\njoins NAFI as a career flight instructor and flight school owner. During his\ntime as a NAFI member, he has earned five Master Instructor accreditations and\nserved NAFI as a dedicated volunteer, most recently as the co-Producer for our\nmonthly MentorLIVE broadcasts. Aaron is passionate about mentoring flight\ninstructors and will serve as co-Chair of NAFI’s Mentor Committee.
