Keven Coyle, Commander for the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker AFB, Monica Riggs, Engineering Manager with United Dynamics, and State Representative Nicole Miller, House District 82.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The state-level Aviation Art Contest, sponsored by the\nAeronautics Commission, encourages youth, ages 6 to 17, to reflect on aviation\nby designing a piece of art based on the year\u2019s chosen theme. This year\u2019s\ncontest theme was \u201cDesign Your Perfect Aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis contest is a conduit for students to explore\naviation,\u201d State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies said. \u201cIf we can reach\nthem at the earliest of ages, we can guide them into STEM-based education and\naviation and aerospace careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Junior Division, ages 6 to 9, Grace Huang, from\nTruman Elementary School in Norman, took home first prize. This year\u2019s\nsecond-place winner in the Junior Division was Elvin Liu Zhu from Frontier\nElementary School in Edmond. The third-place winner was Matthew Henderson and\nHonorable Mention went to Alannah Kavlaity, both from Cyril Elementary School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"232\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marian-Winchell-Edmond.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21086\"\/><figcaption><em>Art by Marion Winchel<\/em>l<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Olivia Zhao from Plainview Middle School in Ardmore took top\nhonors in the Intermediate Division, ages 10-13. Taking second was Ava Haick\nfrom Yukon Middle School, and third was Chan U. Ieng from Duncan Middle School.\nReceiving an Honorable Mention in the division was Daphne Greenley, also from\nYukon Middle School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deer Creek School\u2019s, Marian Winchell, from Edmond finished\natop the Senior Division, ages 14-17, followed by Alexis Reichert, a student at\nAtoka High School. Lilana De Loera took third, while Jose Lopez received an\nhonorable mention in the division. Both students are from Astec Charter High\nSchool in Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First-place winners in each of the three age categories\nreceive $200, while the second-place winners receive $150. A cash prize of $100\nis presented to students who place third, and honorable mention will receive\n$50. The top three entries in each age division were forwarded to Washington,\nD.C., where they will compete nationally against other winners from the U.S.\nfor the right to advance to the international competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judges for this year\u2019s art contest included State\nRepresentative Nicole Miller, House District 82; Colonel Keven P. Coyle, Commander,\n552nd Air Control Wing, Tinker Air Force Base; Lance Lamkin, A.A.E., Airport\nAdministrator at University of Oklahoma; and, Monica Riggs, Engineering Manager\nfor United Dynamics, Inc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 International Aviation Art Contest is sponsored, in\nlarge part, by the National Aeronautic Association, F\u00e9d\u00e9ration A\u00e9ronautique\nInternationale, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Embry-Riddle\nAeronautical University, National Coalition for Aviation and Space Education,\nFederal Aviation Administration, and the Ken Cook Co.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission announced the names of students that placed in the 2022 Oklahoma Aviation &amp; Aerospace Art Contest.
