The exercise took place in Willow Park, in\nBennington, shortly after a severe ice storm in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/national-guard-training-3-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21064\" width=\"264\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/national-guard-training-3-edit.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/national-guard-training-3-edit-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/national-guard-training-3-edit-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><figcaption> <em>C\/A1C Olivia Chase from the Bennington Composite Squadron of the Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol recently participated in cold weather search and rescue training in Bennington\u2019s Willow Park. <\/em><strong><em>Photo Credits: Captain Hal Friday, Vermont Wing, Civil Air Patrol.<\/em><\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Vermont Wing and Guard members spent the day practicing\nsearch and rescue techniques, emphasizing safe operations in cold weather\nconditions:&nbsp; snowshoeing, sled pulling,\nerecting a cold weather tent, and preparing special cold weather M.R.E.s (Meals\nReady to Eat) for lunch.&nbsp; The exercise\nconcluded with a review of lessons learned, as well as any needed operational\nand other improvements.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Captain Jonathan Mercer, commander of the Bennington\nComposite Squadron, noted &#8220;This event was the latest of several successful\njoint exercises with Sergeant First Class Justus Keith and his colleagues from\nthe Vermont Army National Guard. This was the first time our squadrons worked\nwith the members of the 172nd Cavalry Regiment, and we are grateful for the\nleadership and skills they demonstrated to our cadets and senior members.
