The applications were for a variety of improvement projects that focused on master plans, lighting enhancements, runway, taxiway, and apron reconstruction projects, land easements, perimeter fencing, building construction, snow removal equipment, and weather cameras.

This year forty-six public-use airports across Montana requested funding of nearly $7 million. The Board awarded funds for 61 out of 97
different project requests for thirty-five of Montana’s public airports, to include federally and non-federally funded
projects. A portion of the grant and loan funds awarded annually contribute to
leveraging the 90/10 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) match for large
airport construction projects.

Any public airport is eligible to apply for assistance through the loan and
grant program. Funds can be used for a wide variety of airport and aviation
related projects. The submission deadline for applications is November 15th
annually and the funding is typically awarded in January of the following year.
Although the funding is awarded in January, they are not available until the
beginning of the next fiscal year – July 1. During their meeting, the Montana Aeronautics
Board reviews the applications and takes public comment before making their
final award determinations for the upcoming fiscal year.

The projects funded for FY 2023 are as follows:

ANACONDA (BOWMAN FIELD)
Install Runway vertical/visual Guidance System
$11,000 $0
Conduct/Update Airport Master Plan Study {ALP, EA, etc.}
$19,500 $0

BRIDGER (BRIDGER MUNI)
Install/Rehabilitate Airport Beacons
$14,000 $14,000

BROADUS (BROADUS)
Rehabilitate Runway
$11,870 $0
Rehabilitate Apron
$2,020 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$1,010 $0

BROWNING (STARR-BROWNING AIRSTRIP)
Acquire Security Equipment/Install Perimeter Fencing
$140,250 $0

CHOTEAU (CHOTEAU)
Rehabilitate Runway
$8,824 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$3,176 $0
Install Guidance Signs/ Runway Incursion Caution Bars
[Safety/Security] $3,000 $0

COLUMBUS (WOLTERMANN MEMORIAL)
Weather Cameras
$7,500 $0

CONRAD (CONRAD)
Rehabilitate Runway
$18,000 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$1,000 $0
Rehabilitate Apron
$2,000 $0
Rehabilitate Runway Lighting/Electrical Vault
$2,000 $0

CUT BANK (CUT BANK INTL)
Rehabilitate Runway
$26,000 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$10,000 $0
Rehabilitate Apron
$3,300 $0

DEER LODGE (DEER LODGE-CITY-COUNTY)
Construct/Extend/Improve Runway Safety Area
$21,150 $0
Weather Cameras
$3,750 $0

DUTTON (DUTTON)
Construct Taxiway
$63,000 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$25,200 $0

EKALAKA (EKALAKA)
Install miscellaneous NAVAIDS/Approach Aids [Standard] *BEACON*
$16,000 $0

EUREKA (EUREKA)
Weather Cameras
$7,500 $0

FAIRFIELD (FAIRFIELD)
Rehabilitate Runway
$78,060 $0

GARDINER (GARDINER)
Rehabilitate Runway
$580,000 $102,852

GLASGOW (WOKAL FIELD/GLASGOW-VALLEY COUNTY)
Rehabilitate Runway
$38,700 $0
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$11,700 $0

GREAT FALLS (GREAT FALLS INTL)
Acquire Snow Removal Equipment/Urea Truck/etc.
$90,000 $0
Extend Taxiway
$27,000 $0

HAVRE (HAVRE CITY-COUNTY)
Weather Cameras
$3,750 $0
Acquire/Install/Rehabilitate Emergency Generator
$25,000 $0

HELENA (HELENA RGNL)
Weather Cameras
$3,750 $0

KALISPELL (KALISPELL CITY)
Install Runway Lighting
$394,187 $0

LAUREL (LAUREL MUNI)
Conduct/Update Airport Master Plan Study {ALP, EA, etc.}
$10,500 $0
Acquire Security Equipment/Install Fencing {e.g., access control}
$40,500 $0

LEWISTOWN (LEWISTOWN MUNI)
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$265,950 $29,550
Acquire Security Equipment/Install Fencing {e.g., access control}
$31,500 $0

LIBBY (LIBBY AIRPORT)
Weather Cameras
$7,500 $0

LIVINGSTON (MISSION FIELD)
Construct Taxiway
$31,500 $50,000

MALTA (MALTA)
Install/Rehabilitate Airport Beacons
$15,845 $0

MDT (MDT AERONAUTICS)
Weather Cameras {to install at airports}
$17,305 $0

PLAINS (PLAINS)
Install Weather Reporting Equipment {describe, e.g., AWOS }
$36,000 $0

RED LODGE (RED LODGE) *
Conduct/Update Airport Master Plan Study {ALP, EA, etc.}
$11,150 $0
Construct Taxiway
$25,000 $0

SCOBEY (SCOBEY)
Install Weather Reporting Equipment {describe, e.g., AWOS }
$28,800 $3,200
Install miscellaneous NAVAIDS/Approach Aids [Standard]
$2,500 $0
Rehabilitate Runway Lighting/Electrical Vault
$6,750 $750

SHELBY (SHELBY)
Install Weather Reporting Equipment {describe, e.g., AWOS }
$32,400 $0

SIDNEY (SIDNEY-RICHLAND RGNL)
Rehabilitate Runway
$297,000 $33,000
Rehabilitate Runway Lighting/Electrical Vault
$18,000 $2,000

STANFORD (STANFORD/BIGGERSTAFF FLD)
Construct Taxiway
$30,000 $15,000

SUPERIOR (MINERAL COUNTY)
Weather Cameras {describe location & utilization}
$7,500 $0

TERRY (TERRY)
Conduct/Update Airport Master Plan Study {ALP, EA, etc.}
$11,500 $11,500

THREE FORKS (THREE FORKS)
Rehabilitate Runway
$142,020 $15,780
Rehabilitate Taxiway
$51,087 $5,676
Rehabilitate Apron
$51,087 $5,676
Extend Taxiway
$115,659 $12,850
Install Taxiway Lighting (e.g., SMGCS, reflectors, MITL)
$0 $48,166
Weather Cameras
$3,750 $0

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS)
Install Weather Reporting Equipment {describe, e.g., AWOS }
$36,000 $0

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)’s Aeronautics Board approved over $3 million in funding during their Helena meeting January 11th/12th, 2022.
