The eight-month project\nwill break ground later this month and will deliver important safety\nenhancements and extend the lifespan of airfield facilities that contribute to\nVNY\u2019s world-class status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"203\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nuys-Airport-Constr-story-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21042\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nuys-Airport-Constr-story-edit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Van-Nuys-Airport-Constr-story-edit-300x76.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The work will involve reconstructing the entire 4,000-foot\nlength of Runway 16L and include enhancements to the taxiway, runway lighting,\nairfield signage and surface markings, and adding jet blast pads. Improvements\nto Runway 16R will include resurfacing the asphalt and associated connector\ntaxiways to extend the life of the pavement, refreshing runway and connector\ntaxiway markings, and upgrading the lighting to LED fixtures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs one of the busiest general aviation airports in the\ncountry, VNY and its tenants will benefit from these runway improvements that\nwill enhance operations, safety and our facilities,\u201d said Justin Erbacci, Chief\nExecutive Officer, LAWA. \u201cThe project design, phasing and construction will\nmaximize federal grants while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations. This\nwork is an example of how VNY is meeting our strategic goals of operating and\nmaintaining exceptional facilities for our tenants, employees and passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will be managed by LAWA\u2019s Development Group with\nHNTB Corp. serving as engineer-of-record and Sully-Miller Contracting Co. as\ngeneral contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction schedule was strategically phased to\nminimize airport operational impacts due to the closures of runways and\ntaxiways. Construction will begin with a 161-day closure of the 4,000-foot\nRunway 16L beginning in late February. During this time, operations will be\ndirected to the 8,000-foot Runway 16R, with a minimum of two connector taxiways\noperational at all times.
