ILM airport has experienced significant growth in passenger\nnumbers. 2019 was a milestone year as the airport served over 1 million\npassengers. Throughout Covid, ILM has\nseen a strong recovery in passenger numbers. \nIn fact, based on TSA passenger throughput data, ILM\u2019s passenger\nrecovery has outperformed other airports in North Carolina and across the\nUnited States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith all our growth and demand, expanding the terminal has\nbeen a top priority. We want to ensure ILM has increased capacity to\naccommodate our current and future growth,\u201d stated Donna Girardot Airport\nAuthority Chairman. ILM\u2019s terminal\nexpansion project has been a multiyear $68 million project. \u201cI would like to thank our key federal and\nstate partners for making this project possible,\u201d Girardot shared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
ILM\u2019s terminal expansion project has been completed in phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Contract 1 of the terminal expansion added a new\noutbound bag room and screening equipment. <\/li>
- Contract 2 expanded ILM\u2019s airline ticket lobby,\nticket counters and ticket offices.<\/li>
- Contract 3, which was celebrated at the ribbon\ncutting, is the largest and most dynamic portion of the expansion project. The\nwork on this phase of the project adds new gate space, new gate seating, new\nrestrooms, and new and expanded concession space. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Wilmington International Airport\u2019s terminal expansion\nproject increased the airport facility by 75%. \nAccording to Donna Girardot, Airport Authority Chairman, \u201cWith this\nincreased capacity, we can accommodate and support the growth of our existing\nairline partners, American, Delta, and United, and we have room and plan to\nwelcome additional carriers. We also\nhave the capacity to serve 50% more passengers and ensure, with our additional\nspace, there\u2019s \u201cMore Room to Coast\u201d for all of them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moving forward, ILM will continue to work on Contract 3,\nschedule 2, which completes in summer of 2023. \nOnce complete, the construction of the terminal will include 9 total\ngates, an expanded bag claim area, and renovations to the existing hold room\nwhich will match the look and feel of ILM\u2019s new concourse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
