PNNL was honored for its work on\nthe technology, which was developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of\nHomeland Security, Science, and Technology Directorate, and exclusively\nlicensed to Liberty Defense in 2021 for commercialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great accomplishment and a true reflection of the\npartnership between PNNL and Liberty to bring innovative and next-generation\nsecurity technology to the market,\u201d said Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense.\n\u201cThe shoe screening technology, paired with the High-Definition Advanced\nImaging Technology body scanner, also licensed to Liberty, will revolutionize\nscreening at aviation checkpoints.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The millimeter-wave shoe scanner uses advanced imaging to\ndetect concealed objects in footwear without the wearer having to remove their\nshoes, creating a highly efficient, seamless screening process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn practice, the shoe screener could be integrated into the\nfloor of the existing airport body scanning portals or be used as a standalone\nunit at the checkpoint,\u201d added Frain. \u201cOur goal is to improve not only the\nefficacy of airport screening but also improve the experience of passengers.\nThis technology has the potential to do just that.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Liberty Defense Holdings Ltd. has announced that the Company\u2019s millimeter-wave shoe screening technology, initially developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), was awarded the 2022 Interagency Partnership Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC).
