{"id":20709,"date":"2022-01-22T01:58:16","date_gmt":"2022-01-22T01:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=20709"},"modified":"2022-01-22T01:58:18","modified_gmt":"2022-01-22T01:58:18","slug":"north-dakota-airline-passenger-demand-showcases-remarkable-recovery-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/north-dakota\/north-dakota-airline-passenger-demand-showcases-remarkable-recovery-in-2021\/%20","title":{"rendered":"North Dakota Airline Passenger Demand Showcases Remarkable Recovery in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>North Dakota\u2019s commercial service airports finished calendar\nyear 2021 with a statewide total of 886,809 airline passenger boardings.&nbsp; This is an increase of 314,716 passengers or\na 55% increase from 2020.&nbsp; All eight\ncommercial service airports were able to provide services to more passengers in\n2021 than they did in the previous calendar year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, the airports also tallied 887,914 passenger\ndeplanements for a grand total of 1,774,723 passengers (enplanements and\ndeplanements) that traveled through the commercial service terminal buildings\nof North Dakota over the past year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airline boardings have been adversely affected since the\nbeginning of the pandemic when the state experienced an immediate 95% percent\ndecline in passenger numbers during the month of April in 2020.&nbsp; Since that time, the state has been\ncontinually trending in a positive direction and in recent months, the recovery\nin passenger demand has grown to an average of 17% below 2019\u2019s pre-pandemic\nlevels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent growth in demand throughout 2021 has also\nencouraged airlines to begin looking to add more flights, destinations, and\nseat capacity to airports, though challenges with workforce shortages have\nlimited their up-scaling ability.&nbsp; Demand\nfor aviation workers has and will continue to create opportunities and provides\nencouragement for our youth to consider a career in the aviation sector.&nbsp; Pilots, aircraft mechanics, and unmanned\naircraft operators are just a few of the exciting career options that are\nprojected to continue to be in high demand in the near future.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite all challenges, North Dakota continues to provide\nthe public with a high level of air service availability as the state\u2019s\nairports provide the public with ten non-stop destination options (three are\nseasonal). All eight of the commercial service airports in North Dakota also\ncontinue to provide their communities with reliable jet service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe past year was one of significant challenges for the\naviation industry as it worked to accommodate a large recovery in passenger\ndemand while pro-actively mitigating risks associated with the pandemic and\nworkforce shortages.\u201d&nbsp; stated Kyle\nWanner, Executive Director of the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.&nbsp; \u201cAmongst these challenges, North Dakota\u2019s\nairline passenger demand is within reach of a full recovery to 2019\u2019s\npre-pandemic levels.&nbsp; The success of the\nongoing recovery showcases the resiliency of our state as well as the\nimportance that aviation transportation provides to all of our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>North Dakota\u2019s commercial service airports finished calendar year 2021 with a statewide total of 886,809 airline passenger boardings.&nbsp; This is an increase of 314,716 passengers or a 55% increase from 2020.&nbsp; All eight commercial service airports were able to provide services to more passengers in 2021 than they did in the previous calendar year.
