That&#8217;s great news for consumers, who,\nencouraged by the pandemic,&nbsp;are increasingly reliant on\nonline shopping and its offshoot, package delivery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Insider Intelligence predicted\na&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insiderintelligence.com\/insights\/ecommerce-industry-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">13.7% growth in U.S. eCommerce sales<\/a>, reaching $908 billion by the end of 2021. Wing,&nbsp;Google&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dronedj.com\/2021\/12\/16\/wing-drone-delivery-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drone delivery<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/dronedj.com\/2021\/12\/16\/wing-drone-delivery-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;service<\/a>, made more than 140,000\ndeliveries to customers in the US, Australia, and Finland in 2021. Others are\nalso getting into drone delivery, and the drone delivery sector, which\nwas&nbsp;valued at about $2 billion in 2020, is\nprojected to reach $5.6 billion by 2026,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C-2-1edit-1024x743.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20701\" width=\"344\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C-2-1edit-1024x743.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C-2-1edit-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C-2-1edit.jpg 1250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But few people are talking about where, exactly, those drones are going to be leaving those packages.&nbsp;If it&#8217;s in yards or near porches, what&#8217;s to stop the porch pirate trade?&nbsp;More than&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.safewise.com\/blog\/metro-areas-porch-theft\/\" target=\"_blank\">210 million packages disappeared<\/a>&nbsp;off American porches in&nbsp;2020.&nbsp;<br> <br>DRONEDEK, one of the first companies in the world to patent a smart mailbox designed for secure drone delivery, thinks of little else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur technology is\nahead of the market right now, but we\u2019re going to see huge movement in the U.S.\ndelivery-by-drone market next year&nbsp;as usage increases,\u201d said CEO Dan\nO&#8217;Toole. &#8220;We&#8217;re ready for that and should have delivery of thousands of\nour smart mailboxes in Q2 this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Consumers won&#8217;t\nalways be home to watch drones deliver their packages, and that&#8217;s going to give\nrise to even more theft for those consumers without a smart mailbox&#8221; he\npredicted. &#8220;We think the smart mailbox is going to be the next utility &#8212;\nas commonplace as a smart phone or microwave oven.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20702\" width=\"277\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dronedelivery-to-DRONEDEK-B2C-300x257.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The DRONEDEK mailbox also accepts traditional\nmail delivery and is destined to become an everyday utility service like power\nor water. The device is capable of keeping packages hot or cold; will alert\nusers to package arrival; recharge drones; and even serve as an emergency alert\nif necessary.
