As part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and\nMedicine, the TRB provides leadership in transportation improvements and\ninnovation in all modes of transportation. TRB stimulates research and offers\nresearch management services that promote technical excellence; provides expert\nadvice on transportation policy and programs; and disseminates research results\nbroadly and encourages their implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joel-Jundt.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20552\" width=\"240\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joel-Jundt.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joel-Jundt-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><figcaption><em>Joel Jundt<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Jundt will become a member of the Executive Committee which\nis the senior policy body for the TRB. The Executive Committee is comprised of\napproximately 25 members appointed by the Chair of the National Research\nCouncil of the National Academies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Kristi Noem named Jundt as Secretary of the South\nDakota Department of Transportation in March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJoel has long been respected throughout the industry and\nhas dedicated his life to promoting transportation access and opportunity in\nSouth Dakota,\u201d said Governor Noem. \u201cHe has proven himself to be the leader who\ncan spearhead the future of mobility here in South Dakota.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A native of Rapid City, Jundt graduated from South Dakota\nSchool of Mines in 1985 with a degree in civil engineering. He has been a part\nof the DOT for his entire career, starting as a road design engineer and\nworking his way up to be Rapid City region and operations engineer, director of\nplanning and engineering, and deputy secretary.
