Keith DeBerry has served as NATA\u2019s Senior Advisor of\nRegulatory Affairs (Maintenance) and liaison for its Aircraft Maintenance and\nSystems Technology Committee since January 2020. In his new full-time role,\nDeBerry will lead the development of safety education efforts, including\nprograms that help members from across the industry plan for, implement, and\ndevelop SMS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Keith-DeBerry.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20526\" width=\"173\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Keith-DeBerry.jpg 348w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Keith-DeBerry-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 173px) 100vw, 173px\" \/><figcaption><em>Keith DeBerry<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKeith brings 45 years of aviation experience to the NATA\nteam, including more than two decades in FAA leadership roles. We are thrilled\nto have someone of his caliber with a passion for aviation and putting members\nfirst to lead our safety and education programs,\u201d stated NATA President and CEO\nTimothy Obitts. \u201cKeith\u2019s extensive experience, in everything from maintenance\nand aviation safety oversight to SMS and education program\ndevelopment\/implementation, as well as his passion for helping to kickstart\nnext-generation careers in aviation, will be tremendously beneficial in\nadvancing the success of both our members and the entire industry in these key\nareas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before joining NATA, DeBerry served as the FAA\u2019s Academy\nDirector. In this role, DeBerry led a workforce of over 400 federal employees\nand hundreds of contractors in providing high-quality, cost-effective learning\nsolutions for thousands of aviation students each year. Additionally, DeBerry\nled the Regulatory Standards Training Division, where he was responsible for\nproviding the FAA\u2019s aviation safety inspectors and engineers technical\ntraining, and managed the Academy\u2019s flight program, where he led the development\nand implementation of the FAA\u2019s first flight program Safety Management System\n(SMS), utilizing the new Part 5 SMS rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his 22-year federal career, DeBerry gained\nextensive experience leading, directing, and managing aviation safety oversight\nactivities \u2013 preparing him for success in his role as the Supervisory Principal\nMaintenance Inspector for UPS Airlines, where he oversaw a workforce charged\nwith Congressional mandated safety oversight of UPS Airlines\u2019 300 aircraft\nfleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeBerry served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he got\nhis start as a maintenance technician and was later assigned as chief of maintenance\nfor the Thunderbirds USAF Air Demonstration Squadron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeBerry holds a Master of Business Administration degree\n(MBA) and a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle\nAeronautical University and is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) is pleased to announce that Keith DeBerry has been named Senior Vice President of Safety and Education.
