Rick Larsen (D-WA-2), Ranking Aviation\nSubcommittee Member Garret Graves (R-LA-6) and Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV-1), the\nbipartisan Advanced Aviation Infrastructure Modernization Act (AAIM Act)\ndirects the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to create a pilot program to offer\nplanning and construction grants to support the development of necessary\ninfrastructure to support AAM operations, including public-use vertiports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powered by electric or hybrid propulsion, AAM offers\nsignificant potential to improve mobility and complement existing public\ntransportation networks while reducing congestion and carbon and noise\nemissions. Studies indicate the AAM industry may support nearly 300,000 new\njobs and represent a $115 billion annual market by 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The House bill results from advocacy efforts led by NBAA\nwith the support of a broad group of aviation stakeholders to underscore the\nimportance of beginning AAM planning and construction now so that our nation\ncan take full advantage of the technology. Through NBAA\u2019s AAM Roundtable, a\nforum established earlier this year for high-level sector leaders to chart a\ncourse for integrating AAM technologies into the nation\u2019s airspace and infrastructure,\nNBAA is raising awareness of the industry with leading policymakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe successful integration of AAM will depend upon\ncomprehensive planning, construction, and community input,\u201d said NBAA President\nand CEO Ed Bolen. \u201cThe targeted investments proposed in this legislation will\nassist U.S. state, local and tribal governments in creating new, innovative,\nand sustainable air transportation networks throughout our country that will\nsupport hundreds of thousands of green jobs while also ensuring our nation\u2019s\nglobal leadership in aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/press-releases\/nbaas-new-aam-roundtable-will-advocate-for-interests-of-on-demand-air-mobility-sector\/?_zs=plpde1&amp;_zl=TjK58\">Learn more about the NBAA AAM Roundtable<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant program would also help fund the safe integration of AAM into the nation\u2019s airspace, leverage existing public transportation facilities to support AAM operations, and develop inclusive community engagement programs to assist with incorporating the technology into existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill provides a path for communities to apply for\nconstruction funding for vertiports and associated infrastructure after\ncompleting the planning process. Including construction funding in the\nlegislation is critical to ensuring that a diverse set of communities have\naccess to AAM and its mobility benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough our Grassroots Action Center, we encourage NBAA members to let their elected officials know the importance of this legislation to successful AAM integration.
