{"id":20394,"date":"2021-12-19T22:58:40","date_gmt":"2021-12-19T22:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=20394"},"modified":"2021-12-19T22:58:42","modified_gmt":"2021-12-19T22:58:42","slug":"wsdot-aviation-division-to-administer-commercial-drone-registration-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/washington\/wsdot-aviation-division-to-administer-commercial-drone-registration-program\/%20","title":{"rendered":"WSDOT Aviation Division to Administer Commercial Drone Registration Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The last Washington state legislative session saw the\nenactment of SHB 1379, entrusting the Washington State Department of\nTransportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division with the establishment of the State\nUnpiloted Aircraft Systems Coordinator position and commercial drone\nregistration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WSDOT Aviation is in the process of establishing the\ncommercial drone registration program as outlined in the legislation. This work\nwill occur over the next several months with implementation in the Spring of\n2022. The program will mirror the registration process that is currently in\nplace for regular aircraft registration but tailored for drones used for\ncommercial purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan is for the <a href=\"https:\/\/wsdot.wa.gov\/travel\/aviation\/pilots-aircraft\/drones-unmanned-aircraft-systems-uas\">WSDOT Aviation website<\/a> to facilitate the registration process. You can find information on the program and updates on their website as they move closer to bringing the registration application online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to foster the advancement of UAS technology\nwhere it adds value to the state\u2019s current transportation system and enriches\nthe lives of Washingtonians. If you have input you feel is important to advancing\nUAS operations in the State, please reach out to the Division. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commercial drone owners will also need to check with their\nlocal county assessor\u2019s office to see if their drone is subject to personal\nproperty tax. Most personal property owned by individuals is specifically\nexempt. However, if these items are used in a business, personal property tax\napplies. The county assessor will make the determination if personal property\ntax is due and explain any actions that need to be taken.
