{"id":19926,"date":"2021-11-04T23:28:32","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T23:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=19926"},"modified":"2021-11-04T23:28:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-04T23:28:34","slug":"coastal-carolina-regional-airport-celebrating-new-fire-rescue-facility-90th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/north-carolina\/coastal-carolina-regional-airport-celebrating-new-fire-rescue-facility-90th-anniversary\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Coastal Carolina Regional Airport Celebrating New Fire &#038; Rescue Facility, 90th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN) has announced the\ncompletion of its new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) facility, an\nevent that coincides with the celebration of the airport\u2019s 90th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AARF facility is the culmination of a multi-year plan to\nincrease the capability of the airport\u2019s on-site firefighting team while making\nway for future terminal improvements. A celebration and ribbon cutting will be\nheld at 3:00 p.m. on November 19<sup>th<\/sup> at the new Aircraft Rescue and\nFire Fighting facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, the airport received funding to build the airport\u2019s\nfirst ever stand-alone firefighting facility through a supplemental development\ngrant awarded by the FAA. As a commercial service airport, EWN is required to\nmaintain the highest FAA standards for passenger and aircraft safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith this new consolidated facility, ARFF operations and\ntraining will be optimized to increase the overall safety and efficiency for\nthe traveling public as well as the firefighters themselves,\u201d Airport Director,\nAndy Shorter stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new facility has two equipment bays, and the airport\nwill acquire a second ARFF truck to provide additional support for larger\naircraft. There is also a large training room that will be a valuable\nenhancement for individual training and group training, as well as the execution\nof large-scale training exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an additional benefit to the community, this facility has\nall the amenities of any municipal fire station, making it well suited to act\nas community resource for natural disaster recovery operations or as a back-up\nlocal emergency operations center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is fitting that during its 90th anniversary the airport\nis able to put into service a new and transformational facility that will not\nonly increase the level of safety and training at the airport but will also provide\na backstop for high level emergency situations throughout the region,\u201d Shorter\nstated. \u201cWe have a proud history and are glad to usher in the beginning of our\n10th decade with this new facility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Nov. 21, 1931, what was then known as Simmons-Nott\nAirport was dedicated and has been committed to serving the community\u2019s air\ntravel needs ever since.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN) has announced the completion of its new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) facility, an event that coincides with the celebration of the airport\u2019s 90th anniversary.
