{"id":19874,"date":"2021-11-01T21:31:32","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T21:31:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=19874"},"modified":"2021-11-01T21:31:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T21:31:34","slug":"new-aviation-coalition-formed-in-utah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/utah\/new-aviation-coalition-formed-in-utah\/%20","title":{"rendered":"New Aviation Coalition Formed in Utah"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Officials with a number of aviation associations\nincluding the Utah Business Aviation Association (UBAA), the Utah Airport\nOperators Association (UAOA), the Utah General Aviation Association (UGAA), and\nthe Utah Back Country Pilots Association, are optimistic that a new coalition\nwill boost support for general aviation in the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s hoped that the new Utah Aviation Coalition will have\na bigger voice in the state, in particular with regard to how state aviation\nfunds are allocated. Richard Stehmeier, CM, Airport Manager for St. George\nRegional Airport, said one of the goals is to make sure that the money in the\naviation fund, which is supposed to be restricted to aviation interests, is\nused properly. He also hopes the clout of an all-state aviation coalition will\npositively impact the influence of general aviation with the Utah Department of\nTransportation (UDOT), of which the Division of Aeronautics is a relatively\nsmall part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jared Esselman, Director of the Division of Aeronautics, said\nrather than having five to seven groups always making requests and proposals in\nall different directions, the Utah Aviation Coalition provides \u201ca unified voice\non major issues for the aviation industry in Utah.\u201d The Coalition will meet\nwith Esselman once a quarter to discuss budgets, airport projects, and aviation\nprograms across the state. \u201cThey then communicate back to their association\nmemberships,\u201d said Esselman. \u201cThey also have a unified voice when it comes to\nlegislative efforts. That is a much-needed function for aviators in the\nstate.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers noted that the coalition is already working\nclosely with several state legislators, informing them about the need to\nprotect the restricted fund and their concerns about how the state will pay for\nsome potential aircraft purchases it is considering.
