{"id":19753,"date":"2021-10-19T13:18:32","date_gmt":"2021-10-19T13:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=19753"},"modified":"2021-10-19T13:18:33","modified_gmt":"2021-10-19T13:18:33","slug":"20-7-million-in-state-funding-announced-for-airports-across-new-york-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/new-york\/20-7-million-in-state-funding-announced-for-airports-across-new-york-state\/%20","title":{"rendered":"$20.7 Million in State Funding Announced for Airports Across New York State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The award of $20.7 million for strategic infrastructure\nenhancements at 24 public-use airports across New York was recently announced.\nThis State funding will enhance safety, facilitate innovation, leverage\nexisting resources, advance business development, and promote sustainability\nand resilience at these facilities.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Local and regional airports are the gateway to\ncommunities across New York State, attracting tourists and business from around\nthe world,&#8221; Governor Hochul said. &#8220;These investments will continue to\ntransform New York&#8217;s airports into world-class facilities that will further\nboost economic development and growth.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Administered by the New York State Department of\nTransportation, projects funded through the Aviation Capital Investment Program\ninclude the construction of new security and access control improvements,\ndeployment of new automated weather monitoring systems, and the construction\nand rehabilitation of new and existing hangars and aircraft refueling\nfacilities. These investments will serve to make the surrounding communities\nmore economically competitive with neighboring states.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;New York continues to make targeted investments in all\ntransportation infrastructure that will enhance safety; strengthen communities;\nand create and sustain new and existing, well-paying jobs,&#8221; New York State\nTransportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said. &#8220;These aviation\ngrants specifically support projects that will serve to make our local\ncommunities more economically competitive &#8211; regionally and globally.&#8221;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With this funding, New York is taking further steps to\nenhance our airports, which are vital to continuing to attract businesses,\ntourists, and new residents, contributing to the overall economic success of\nthe state,&#8221; said Senator Tim Kennedy, Chair of the Senate Transportation\nCommittee. &#8220;I thank Governor Hochul for prioritizing these investments and\nlook forward to seeing these essential projects move forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Renovating local airports allows our cities to\ncontinue to be a driver in economic development by drawing tourists, out of\ntown businesses and facilitating travel plans,&#8221; said Assemblyman William\nMagnarelli, Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee. &#8220;These funds\nwill provide a boost for the airports to meet the ever-improving\ninfrastructure, technology, security and safety standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funding from the 2021 Aviation Capital Investment Program\nwas awarded to the following projects:&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CAPITAL DISTRICT &#8211; $1.6 million<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.0 million toward construction of a solar electric\ngeneration system; construction of an upgraded septic system; and construction\nof a new facility to support equipment necessary to maintain operations during\ninclement weather events at South Albany Airport in Albany County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.6 million toward the acquisition of service equipment to\nmaintain operations during inclement weather events at the Saratoga County\nAirport.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CENTRAL NEW YORK &#8211; $2.4 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.3 million toward the safe removal\/disposal of the\nexisting aged fueling facility and construction of a new state-of the-art\nenvironmentally friendly refueling facility at the Hamilton Municipal Airport\nin Madison County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.1 million toward the replacement and relocation of\nexisting underground fuel storage tanks, located over a single-source aquifer,\nwith above-ground fuel spill containment tanks at the Chase Field Airport in\nCortland County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FINGER LAKES &#8211; $2.9 million<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.6 million toward construction of a solar electric\ngeneration system and other sustainability improvements at the Williamson-Sodus\nAirport in Wayne County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.4 million toward the acquisition of service equipment to\nmaintain operations during inclement weather events at the Genesee County\nAirport.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.4 million toward the purchase of refueling trucks at the\nPenn Yan Airport in Yates County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.6 million toward construction of a new above-ground spill\ncontainment fuel farm at the Perry Warsaw Airport in Wyoming County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.9 million to enhance airport access and the\nreconfiguration of perimeter security fencing\/gates at the Canandaigua Airport\nin Ontario County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LONG ISLAND &#8211; $0.3 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.3 million toward the purchase and installation of a back-up\ngenerator to support airport operations and enhancements to the Hangar 1 fire\nsuppression system at MacArthur Airport in Suffolk County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MID-HUDSON &#8211; $2.9 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.5 million toward construction of a new central aircraft\ndeicing ramp, part of the new U.S. Customs and Border Protection Facility, at\nthe Westchester County Airport&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.4 million to construct operational support buildings to\nmaintain operations at the Hudson Valley Regional Airport in Dutchess\nCounty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOHAWK VALLEY &#8211; $0.9 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.9 million toward the relocation and modernization of the\nautomated weather observing system required to maintain airport operations at\nthe Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Otsego County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NORTH COUNTRY $5.2 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.9 million toward the rehabilitation of an existing\nairport facility for New York State Police and New York State Power Authority\noperations at the Massena International Airport in St. Lawrence County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.4 million toward construction of a new hangar at the\nFloyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Warren County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.5 million to deploy new security technologies, including\nnew gates, access control and security camera systems, and parking area\nimprovements at the Potsdam Municipal Airport in St. Lawrence County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.5 million toward the safe removal\/disposal of the\nexisting aged fueling facility and construction of a new state-of the-art above\nground refueling facility at the Watertown International Airport in Jefferson\nCounty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.9 million toward the purchase of emergency backup generators;\nenhancements to security, access and communications systems; and safety related\nequipment at the Ogdensburg International Airport in St. Lawrence County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SOUTHERN TIER &#8211; $3.1 million<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.5 million toward installation of energy efficient\nlighting and replacement of the revenue control system at the Greater\nBinghamton Airport in Broome County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.2 million toward energy efficiency Jet Hangar\nimprovements, including high-efficiency heating and LED lighting and general\nhangar rehabilitation activities at the Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport in Chenango\nCounty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.1 million toward the acquisition of service equipment to\nmaintain operations during inclement weather events at the Corning-Painted Post\nAirport in Steuben County.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.3 million toward reconstruction of an existing building\ninto a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility to retain international\npassenger flights at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in Chemung\nCounty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WESTERN NEW YORK &#8211; $1.5 million<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$0.2 million toward the acquisition of service and other\nairport-related equipment at the Wellsville Municipal Airport in Allegany\nCounty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$1.3 million toward the purchase and installation of\nemergency back-up generators to support airport operations at the Buffalo\nNiagara International Airport in Erie County.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funding was awarded to projects through a competitive\nsolicitation process and evaluated based on established criteria including\neconomic benefit, operational efficiencies, safety enhancements, and the\npotential for attracting new or expanded aeronautical related activities. The\nselection criteria also prioritized projects that were cost-effective and\ncontributed to greenhouse gas emission reductions.
