Brewer\nTrophy. She is being recognized for professional leadership and unwavering\ndedication in promoting aviation and aerospace education through industry\npartnerships, workforce initiatives and organizations dedicated to aviation\nacross the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shelly-Simi-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19743\" width=\"179\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shelly-Simi-1.jpg 276w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shelly-Simi-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shelly-Simi-1-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><figcaption><em>Shelly Simi<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Simi shared with the State Aviation Journal that she is honored to be a part of the passionate advocates that have helped shape the future of the industry through aviation\/aerospace education.\u00c2\u00a0 \u201cWhether it\u2019s holding an AvEd camp for young girls, developing curriculum for an aviation high school or creating a new workforce development initiative, every action can influence someone\u2019s decision to support, join, or lead our great industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a professional communicator and collaborator, Simi is\nknown for going above and beyond to expand and promote aviation education\noutreach efforts that encourages students to choose aviation as a career. By\nworking with colleges and universities, teachers, lawmakers, government\npartners and aerospace manufacturers, she has long demonstrated her ability to\ncreate programs and initiatives that have lasting effects on the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simi is a co-founder of the National Coalition for Aviation\nand Space Education (NCASE) which began as a partnership with FAA and other\norganization to create a clearinghouse of resources for teachers. She helped\ncreate the national learn-to-fly program \u201cBe a Pilot\u201d where over 100 General\nAviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) members worked with other industry\nassociation groups to attract new pilots and reverse the trending decline in\nstudent starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simi is a founding board member of Women in Aviation,\nInternational, an organization created by Dr. Peggy Chabrian to bring more\nyoung women into aviation through mentorships, educational outreach and\nscholarships now exceeding $13.2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Brewer Trophy represents the best in aviation\neducation, and the fact that it resides in the nation\u2019s premier educational\ninstitution, The Smithsonian, is evidence of that,\u201d said NAA President Greg\nPrincipato. \u201cShelly throughout her career, in a variety of roles, has made the\npromotion of aviation education a high priority. Whether attracting and\ntraining new pilots, helping start Women in Aviation International and her\nparticipation in Girls in Aviation Day or a variety of other roles, Shelly\u2019s\npassion and energy have left a lasting impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simi said it is exciting to know that a difference is being\nmade in young lives through the efforts of so many to promote aviation\neducation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serving on the 2021 Brewer Trophy selection committee were:\nFrank Brewer, the Brewer Family; Robert Brewer, the Brewer Family; Shella\nCondino, 2011 National Aviation Hall of Fame Aerospace Teacher of the Year;\nDeborah Gallaway, 2004 Brewer Trophy recipient; Professor James Gregory, Ph.D.,\n2020 Brewer Trophy recipient; and Robert Stangarone, NAA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trophy was established in 1943 to honor \u201c\u201c\u2026 significant\ncontributions of enduring value to aerospace education in the United States.\u201d\nPast recipients of the Brewer Trophy include Senator Barry Goldwater, AOPA\u2019s\nYou Can Fly Program, Astronaut Donald Thomas, Barrington Irving, The\nNinety-Nines, and the 2020 recipient, Professor James Gregory, Ph.D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brewer Trophy will be presented at the NAA Fall Awards\nDinner on December 6, 2021, in Arlington, Virginia.
