The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Air Safety\nInstitute (ASI) has released its 31st edition of the Joseph T. Nall Report. The\nreport\u2019s digital platform provides near real-time accident data that are\nupdated on a rolling 30-day cycle, accelerating the analysis process, and\nallowing for the most current snapshot of general aviation safety performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 31st Nall Report notes a decrease in total accidents\nduring 2019. However, the overall accident rates rose during 2019 due to a\nreduction in flight hours, resulting in a total accident rate of 4.88 per\n100,000 hours and a fatal accident rate of 0.88 per 100,000 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report shows an improvement for non-commercial\nhelicopter accidents, which after spiking for two years decreased slightly with\nthe fatal accident rate declining to 0.98 and the total accident rate\ndecreasing to 5.68. \u201cAnother area where\nwe see improvement is the commercial fixed-wing total accident rate, which\ndecreased for the second year in a row,\u201d said Robert Geske, ASI\u2019s Manager of\nAviation Safety Analysis. \u201cThe commercial fixed-wing fatal accident rate\nremains low and largely unchanged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
