Department of Transportation\u2019s Aviation Division\nhas been honored with three awards from the North Carolina Airport Association\n(NCAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCDOT Aviation Director Bobby Walston was presented with the\n2021 Willard G. Plentl Aviation Professional of the Year Award in recognition\nof his service to North Carolina\u2019s aviation sector that exemplifies Plentl\u2019s\nideals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"369\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCAA-Awards-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCAA-Awards-edit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCAA-Awards-edit-300x111.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption><em> Aviation Director Bobby Walston (fifth from right) and ITRE staff accept the 2021 President&#8217;s Award from NCAA.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Walston, who has served with the NCDOT Division of Aviation\nfor nearly 30 years, initially worked under and was mentored by Plentl. The\nformer NCDOT director of aviation and founding member of NCAA\u2019s predecessor\norganization contributed more than 50 years of professional service to the\nbusiness of aviation in North Carolina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominators said Walston demonstrated the same brand of\nleadership, commitment to aviation and community involvement, working\ntirelessly to raise awareness and impact of aviation in North Carolina and the\nnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the NCAA belatedly honored the NCDOT Division\nof Aviation with the 2020 President\u2019s Award for its \u201cunsurpassed support and\nunwavering dedication in developing and enhancing North Carolina&#8217;s system of\nairports along with promoting the statewide aerospace industry and its valuable\nimpact.\u201d The award was presented this year at the NCAA\u2019s August conference\nbecause the 2020 conference was cancelled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCAA also recognized the Division of Aviation and North\nCarolina State University\u2019s Institute for Transportation Research and Education\n(ITRE) with the 2021 President\u2019s Award for \u201ctheir creativity and dedication in\nthe pursuit of elevating the collective knowledge and skills of North Carolina\nairport professionals\u201d through the N.C. Airport Technical Assistance Program,\nwhich ITRE manages for the Division.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The N.C.
