Drone pilots need FAA approval prior to flying in controlled airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the near real-time night authorizations,\ndrone pilots will have more areas they can fly in since the FAA has divided the\nairspace into smaller segments. Since April 2021, while LAANC providers updated\ntheir software, Part 107 pilots were able to operate in controlled airspace at\nnight with a valid LAANC daytime authorization and an authorization letter from\nthe FAA which expires on September 30. Today\u2019s announcement provides a\npermanent solution for Part 107 drone pilots to operate in controlled airspace\nat night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on night authorizations and\nadditional LAANC announcements, visit the FAA website.
