Board of\nTransportation approved over $29.2 million in grant funding for safety and\nvarious improvements to 13 airports across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190314_102055edit-1024x597.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19569\" width=\"281\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190314_102055edit-1024x597.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190314_102055edit-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190314_102055edit.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><figcaption><em>Raleigh Executive Jetport<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The following projects are included in the approved grants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$5.3 million for pavement rehabilitation on the\nrunway, replacement of NAVAIDs and construction of turnarounds at the Hyde\nCounty Airport.<\/li><li>$350,000 for the removal of building\nobstructions within the runway approach at the Dare County Regional Airport.<\/li><li>$36,000 to relocate the Runway 3 threshold and\ncorrect runway end light configurations for the Martin County Airport.<\/li><li>$400,000 for the rehabilitation of the crosswind\nrunway at the Michael J. Smith Field in Carteret County.<\/li><li>$60,000 to fill the dry stormwater retention\npond for the Duplin County Airport.<\/li><li>$4.2 million for the rehabilitation of the\nrunway, taxiway and apron at the Triangle North Executive Airport in Franklin\nCounty; another $2 million was approved for apron expansion.<\/li><li>$5 million for the construction of the runway\nturnarounds and completion of the parallel taxiway at the Lumberton Regional\nAirport in Robeson County.<\/li><li>$200,000 for the replacement of the underground\nfuel facility with an aboveground farm at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport in\nScotland County.<\/li><li>$5.3 million for the improvement of current taxi\nlanes and construction of new lanes at the Raleigh Executive Jetport in Lee\nCounty.<\/li><li>$1.5 million for taxiway extension resulting in\nfull parallel at the Mount Airy\/Surry County Airport.<\/li><li>$3 million for filling and grading near the\nterminal building of the Lincolnton\/Lincoln County Regional Airport.<\/li><li>$852,125 for the acquisition of land in the\nRunway Protection Zone for Runway 10 at the Statesville Regional Airport in\nIredell County.<\/li><li>$1 million for the replacement of the fueling\nsystem at the Macon County Airport. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19568\" width=\"195\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image-2.png 459w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image-2-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>North Carolina\u2019s 72 public airports serve as vital economic engines connecting people and business enterprises with the world. Airports and aviation-related industries contribute more than $61 billion to North Carolina\u2019s economy each year, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/Pages\/state-of-aviation.aspx\">2021 State of Aviation<\/a> report. They support 373,000 jobs, generate more than $2.5 billion in state and local tax revenue and provide more than $15 billion in personal income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funds awarded do not necessarily represent the total\ncost of the project.
