Jim Justice and leaders with the West Virginia\nAeronautics Commission announced today that a combined total of $444,063 in\ngrant funding has been secured for airports across the state. The grants were\napproved during the WVAC\u2019s latest meeting on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As I&#8217;ve said over and over, our airports are so\nimportant to our state, and we need to keep doing everything we can to support\nthem in every way,&#8221; Gov. Justice said. &#8220;I am proud that these dollars\nwill do just that, and I commend the Aeronautics Commission for awarding them\nso quickly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two airports will receive grants from Special Revenue,\nprovided by the Aviation Fuel Tax, to provide a portion of the local match for\nadditional Federal Aviation Administration Grants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Huntington, Tri-State Airport will receive\n$3,293 from the WVAC to rehabilitate the airport&#8217;s runway safety area.<\/li><li>Greater Cumberland Regional Airport will receive\n$15,770 from the WVAC to go towards projects to rehabilitate runway 5-23.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The combined WVAC grant total on these projects is\n$19,063 and opens up access to over $343,000 more in funding from the FAA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty-four airports will receive General Revenue grants\nof $12,500 each that combine for a total of $300,000.&nbsp; These grants go towards safety and\ninfrastructure upgrades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to airport funding, $125,000 in funds were\nawarded towards Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training for airport\nfirst responders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recently commissioned economic impact study of West\nVirginia&#8217;s aviation industry identified 10,729 jobs and over $1.63 billion in\nbusiness revenue attributed to airport activity.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe investments the state has made in our airport system\nis paying off exponentially.,\u201d West Virginia Aeronautics Director Sean Hill\nsaid. \u201cBefore our impact study was even conceived, Gov. Justice recognized the\nimportance of West Virginia&#8217;s air infrastructure.
