To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Asheville Regional\nAirport is bringing back the popular Runway 5K on Saturday, October 9 at 2pm.\nThe community is invited to sign up for this fun event that will be held on the\nairfield. Registration is now open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAVL has been a huge part of the fabric of Western North\nCarolina for 60 years, and we want to share a fun and unique day with our\ncommunity,\u201d said Lew Bleiweis, Executive Director. \u201cIt\u2019s an amazing experience\nto spend time on the airfield, watching airplanes take off and land just 150\nfeet away. Welcoming our community to experience aviation so closely is one way\nwe can celebrate our region\u2019s airport together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Runway 5K will be held on the west side of the airfield,\nand festivities will begin at noon, to include live music (setting a retro, 60s\nvibe), food trucks, special merchandise sales and more. All proceeds from the\nevent will benefit two local aviation scholarship funds: The A-B Tech Aviation\nFund, and the WNC Pilots Association Foundation Scholarship Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSupporting aviation education is important to us, and\nwestern North Carolina is fortunate to have a local aviation management program\nat A-B Tech, as well as a flight school. Both scholarship funds will assist\nlocal students who are interested in pursuing careers in this exciting\nindustry,\u201d said Bleiweis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
