{"id":19187,"date":"2021-08-16T17:17:58","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T17:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=19187"},"modified":"2021-08-16T17:18:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T17:18:00","slug":"iowa-transportation-commission-approves-fy2022-state-aviation-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/iowa\/iowa-transportation-commission-approves-fy2022-state-aviation-program\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Iowa Transportation Commission Approves FY2022 State Aviation Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Iowa Transportation Commission recently approved $7\nmillion for the fiscal year 2022 State Aviation Program, which includes several\nsubprograms detailed below.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"160\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Iowa-DOT-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Iowa-DOT-2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Iowa-DOT-2-300x69.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) will fund $4 million\nfor a variety of aviation safety initiatives, system planning, and air service\ndevelopment activities. It will also provide funding for airport development\nprojects at 22 airports in Iowa. Eligible AIP projects include runway, taxiway,\nand apron development; fuel systems; navigational aids; maintenance of aviation\nweather systems; runway marking; windsocks; emergency operational repairs;\nland-use planning; air service initiatives; and the mitigation of obstruction and\nwildlife hazards at airports. The AIP program is funded with revenue from\naircraft registration fees and aviation fuel taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviation vertical infrastructure programs will provide $2.9\nmillion for projects at 12 general aviation airports and eight commercial\nservice airports throughout Iowa. These programs provide funding for the\nmaintenance and development of airport facilities, such as terminal buildings,\nmaintenance facilities, and aviation hangars. Vertical infrastructure programs\nare funded from the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modal Transportation Bureau Director Tammy Nicholson notes\nthat funding for the State Aviation Program has seen significant recovery from\nlast year\u2019s dip to $4.8M.She said, \u201cA return to normal aviation activity levels\nhas increased fuel tax revenues. Additionally, legislators were able to\nappropriate funds from the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund to help meet\nsignificant vertical infrastructure needs at public-owned airports in\nIowa.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Aviation Program supplements local and federal\nfunding sources and seeks to maintain a safe and effective statewide air\ntransportation system.
