Pekoske announced 33 members to serve on the Aviation Security Advisory\nCommittee (ASAC), which provides recommendations for improving aviation\nsecurity. The ASAC was initially established in 1989 following the destruction\nof Pan American World Airways Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland by a\nterrorist bomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecruiting and retaining key thought leaders in aviation\nsecurity is critical to the creation of a thoughtful, productive ASAC,\u201d said\nAdministrator Pekoske. \u201cI am confident that this group of stakeholders will\nfoster fruitful discussions that beget creative solutions and will enhance\ntransportation security around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASAC, a statutory committee under P.L. 113-238, enhances\nTSA\u2019s security posture through consultation with key partners on aviation\nsecurity matters, including the development, refinement, and implementation of\npolicies, programs, rulemaking and security directives pertaining to aviation\nsecurity. There is a statutory limit of 34 committee members from 19 membership\ncategories. The standard appointment term is 2 years.
