Rebecca Lutte, Ph.D., an associate professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Aviation Institute<\/a>, was awarded the Ninety-Nines Award of Achievement for Contributions to Aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ninety-Nines officially announced Lutte\u2019s award on Saturday,\nJuly 10. She received the Award of Achievement for Contributions to Aviation in\nrecognition of her extensive and excellent research focused on aviation\nworkforce development and the outreach, recruitment and retention of women in\naviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Tarry, Ph.D., director and professor within UNO\u2019s\nAviation Institute, congratulated her for being recognized for her outstanding\nachievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Lutte\u2019s passion for broadening participation in\naviation and her commitment to rigorous research in this area have positioned\nher as a leading voice in what is now an important national conversation,\u201d\nTarry said. \u201cWe are thrilled to see her recognized by the 99s and honored to\ncount her as a member of our faculty at UNO.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a longtime member of the Ninety-Nines, Lutte is grateful\nto be awarded by an organization that focuses on encouraging and supporting\nwomen pilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am honored to receive this award from the Ninety-Nines,\u201d\nLutte said. \u201cI am grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to efforts for\nachieving broader representation in our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lutte has a strong track record of work dedicated to\npromoting the recruitment and retention of women in the field of aviation. She\nwas appointed to the FAA Women in Aviation Advisory Board (WIAAB), which is\npreparing recommendations to the FAA for the advancement of women in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Lutte\u2019s responsibilities as a member of the WIAAB is\nto help compile a report on industry trends and supportive efforts impacting the\nnumber of women pursuing careers in aviation. Her 2019 research found that\nwomen are underrepresented in many areas of aviation, including as pilots,\npositions in technical operations, and leadership positions within airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. House of Representatives also recognized Lutte\u2019s\nresearch and expertise as she was asked to appear before the Congressional\nCommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure\u2019s Aviation Subcommittee. She\nprovided insight as a witness during a hearing focused on \u201cBridging the Gap:\nImproving Diversity and Inclusion in the U.S. Aviation Workforce.\u201d In a\nrelease, Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen shared that some of his takeaways\nincluded learning that fewer than 5 percent of airline pilots are women, only\n3.4 percent of airline pilots are Black, and fewer than 0.5 percent of airline\npilots are Black women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
