She is Shaylene Abrey-Webster of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_m3-1024x683-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18840\" width=\"330\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_m3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_m3-1024x683-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/flyingmusicians.org\/fma-solo-program\/\">FMA Solo Program<\/a> inspires, educates, and assists young music students to fly. Shaylene was selected as one of five finalists out of thirty-three nominees from across North America, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. After a vote by the FMA board, Shaylene was selected. \u201cShe is quite a motivated, accomplished, and driven young lady,\u201d said John Zapp Sr., President and CEO of the FMA. \u201cShe has already completed ground school and will be starting flight training soon at Red Deer Regional Airport (CYQF).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FMA Solo Program offers, flight training through solo (15hrs),\nassistance in obtaining flight training materials, assistance in obtaining\nflight gear, a sponsored student membership in FMA, an FMA shirt and other swag,\ndesignation as an FMA Youth Ambassador in their region and an opportunity to\nperform outreach at events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_a1a-967x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18841\" width=\"178\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_a1a-967x1024.png 967w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_a1a-283x300.png 283w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shaylene_a1a.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><figcaption><em>Shaylene Abrey-Webster<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Requirements include being nominated by a music\ndirector\/teacher, possession of a passion for music, a passion for aviation and\ndesire to learn to fly, a junior or senior high school music student, a minimum\nage of 16 (by March 31 of the year award is given), proof of Citizenship (country\nwhere training is to take place), the ability to obtain a 3rd Class FAA\nmedical, state issued driver license or equivalent and parental approval (if\nunder 18 years old). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FMA has now selected three recipients from Canada in the past\nseven years of the program and fourteen overall for this unique Learn to Fly\nscholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Flying Musicians Association (FMA) has announced the recipient of this year\u2019s Flying Musicians Scholarship.
