{"id":18749,"date":"2021-06-29T01:16:30","date_gmt":"2021-06-29T01:16:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18749"},"modified":"2021-06-29T01:17:14","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T01:17:14","slug":"faa-provides-8-billion-in-airport-rescue-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-provides-8-billion-in-airport-rescue-grants\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Provides $8 Billion in Airport Rescue Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $8 billion in grants to keep U.S. airport workers employed, construction projects going and help U.S. airports recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The <a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\/app\/profile\/aoc.web.management\/viz\/ARPA_Allocations2021\/ARPA2021\">funding<\/a> for the grants comes from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 President Biden signed into law on March 11, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Airport Rescue Grants keep workers employed and help\nthe aviation sector recover as more Americans get vaccinated and begin\ntraveling again,\u201d said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. \u201cThese\ngrants are part of the Administration\u2019s commitment to build back a better and\nsafer transportation system throughout our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding provides economic relief to eligible commercial\nservice, reliever, and general aviation airports. The money will help keep\npeople safe and employed by reimbursing operational expenses, debt service\npayments, and costs related to combating the spread of pathogens at the\nairport. Airports can also use the money to provide rent relief to in-terminal\nretail and concession companies. The funding requires that airports continue to\nemploy at least 90 percent of their pre-pandemic employees for those airports\nthat cover a majority of the traveling public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe FAA is committed to working with the aviation industry\nas it recovers from the impacts of the pandemic,\u201d said FAA Administrator Steve\nDickson. \u201cThese airport rescue grants provide needed support to our nation\u2019s\nairports as we recover from the pandemic\u2019s impacts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Airport Rescue Grants program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Primary commercial service airports will share\napproximately $6.5 billion based on the number of annual boardings.<\/li><li>An additional $800 million will be available to\nprimary commercial service airports for providing relief to in-terminal airport\nconcessions from rent and minimum annual guarantees including $640 million for\nrelief to small concessions and $160 million for relief to large airport\nconcessions.<\/li><li>Non-primary commercial service and general\naviation airports will share $100 million based on their airport categories,\nsuch as national, regional, local, and basic.<\/li><li>The remaining funds of the $8 billion will be\nused to cover an airport\u2019s cost-share portion on grants through the FAA\u2019s\nAirport Improvement Program as well as the supplemental discretionary grants.\nThis means airports will likely not have to pay their portion of a given\nproject.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the hundreds of airports receiving funding today\ninclude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Philadelphia International: $115 million<\/li><li>Yeager Airport, Charlestown, W.Va.: $3.2 million<\/li><li>Ted Stevens Anchorage International: $44.4\nmillion<\/li><li>Gulfport-Biloxi International: $4.9 million<\/li><li>Louis Lambert International: $56.2 million<\/li><li>Portland International Jetport, Portland, Maine:\n$10.4 million<\/li><li>Daniel K Inouye International: $74.3 million<\/li><li>Raleigh-Durham International: $50.6 million<\/li><li>Seattle-Tacoma International: $175.7 million<\/li><li>Portland International: $72 million<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For additional program information and the amount of funding each airport is eligible for, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/airport_rescue_grants\/\">FAA\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $8 billion in grants to keep U.S. airport workers employed, construction projects going and help U.S. airports recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
