{"id":18733,"date":"2021-06-28T21:32:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T21:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18733"},"modified":"2021-06-28T21:32:36","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T21:32:36","slug":"dee-howard-foundation-names-first-executive-director-will-chart-a-course-for-strategic-growth-and-innovation-in-san-antonios-educational-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/texas\/dee-howard-foundation-names-first-executive-director-will-chart-a-course-for-strategic-growth-and-innovation-in-san-antonios-educational-landscape\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Dee Howard Foundation Names First Executive Director; Will Chart a Course for Strategic Growth and Innovation in San Antonio\u2019s Educational Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Christina Martinez has been named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deehoward.org\/\">Dee Howard Foundation<\/a>\u2019s first Executive Director. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Christina-Martinezedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18734\" width=\"320\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Christina-Martinezedit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Christina-Martinezedit-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><figcaption><em>Christina Martinez<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Martinez, who has 20 years of executive-level experience in\nthe nonprofit, educational, public affairs and business sectors, will lead\nefforts to grow and strengthen the Foundation\u2019s work that is connecting with,\ninspiring and guiding students in school districts throughout the San Antonio region\ntoward educational and career paths in aerospace, aviation and other exciting\ntechnical fields.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2013, the Foundation has partnered with seven area school districts, a public charter school, and <a href=\"https:\/\/prek4sa.com\/\">Pre-K 4 SA<\/a> to date. In the process it has engaged over 4,500 students through an array of aerospace- and aviation-based programs, such as the development and integration of aeronautical STEM curriculum and project-based learning, field trips to NASA and local civilian and military venues, presentations by local, state and national aerospace experts, and the development of an aircraft build program at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deehoward.org\/dhf-pre-k-thru-12-initiative\/item\/aviation-program-at-southwest-hs-giving-students-new-opportunities\">Southwest High School<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martinez will build on these successes, which have made the\nFoundation a regional and national model in STEM\/STEAM education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As she begins her new job on July 14, she will also continue\nas President of the San Antonio Independent School District\u2019s (SAISD) Board of\nTrustees\u2014a volunteer position to which she was first elected in 2017 as the\nrepresentative for District 6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She joins the foundation following a six-year career as Vice\nPresident of External Relations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas.\nShe previously held executive positions with San Antonio Youth Literacy, Stand\nUp for Kids San Antonio and Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited to have the opportunity to serve as the\nnew Executive Director and help write the next chapters of this exemplary\norganization,\u201d said Martinez. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to build on the work of San\nAntonio\u2019s own global visionary in the world of aviation and aeronautics\u2014the\nlate Dee Howard. I look forward to working hand-in-hand with our board and\npartners to ensure that we inspire students and support them each step of the\nway toward a future as this exciting industry\u2019s next generation of talent.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince the dawn of aviation to the present day, the\naerospace industry has been a bedrock of San Antonio\u2019s economy,\u201d she added.\n\u201cIt\u2019s up to us to provide a strong and engaging foundation for learning that\nconnects students to the real opportunities before them. The Dee Howard\nFoundation and our innovative&nbsp; Pre-K &#8211; 12\nAeronautical STEM curricula are a critical step toward that future.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe are thrilled to\nhave found Christina. She will help us carry out the work of the foundation and\nensure that the mission and vision set out by the board of directors stays top\nof mind in the San Antonio community,\u201d said Wayne Fagan, Chairman of the Board.\n\u201cAs the founder of this organization, I couldn&#8217;t be prouder to hand over the\ncontrols to someone who has dedicated her professional life to ensuring strong\neducational outcomes for kids,\u201d he added. \u201cWe have done some life-changing work\nto date, and there is an exciting future ahead as we continue to advance our\nmission.
