Photo Credit: Vermont Wing, Civil Air Patrol.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1st Lt Vince Gonillo has been promoted to commander of the\nVermont Wing\u2019s Burlington Senior Squadron (VT-002), according to a statement by\nCol. Richard Beach, Commander of the Wing. Gonillo succeeds Captain Peter\nSlocombe, who has been named as Vice Commander of Vermont Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The promotions of two Squadron members were also announced:\n2nd Lt Gerald Coleman has been named as Primary Deputy Commander for VT-002;\nand 2nd Lt Ronald Mitchell has been named Assistant Deputy Commander. Both\nbring considerable experience in aviation and leadership to their new roles,\nCol Beach noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLt Gonillo brings management and IT supervisory\ncapabilities, which, along with his \u2018can-do\u2019 attitude, makes him well qualified\nto lead this active squadron,\u201d said Col Beach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lt Gonillo has lived in Vermont for over 30 years. He\ncurrently serves as the Soldier &amp; Family Readiness Group Leader, a\nvolunteer position with the Vermont Army National Guard. Until his retirement\nin late 2019, Gonillo was the Executive Director of Technology in the Essex\nWestford School District, where he had overseen information technology services\nsince 2003.His tenure there was marked with distinction and included senior IT\nmanagement positions with the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union. Gonillo\nvolunteered and supported the Vermont Army National Guard 2010 deployment and\nwas awarded the Vermont Commendation Medal. He is an alumnus of the\nundergraduate and graduate programs at St. Michael\u2019s College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis appointment is an extraordinary opportunity to further\nmy community service to the people of Vermont, and to build on the strong\nrecord of readiness and professional development established by Capt Slocombe,\u201d\nsaid Lt Gonillo. \u201cLike my predecessors, I will be looking to strengthen our\ngrowing membership with men and women looking to have a gratifying volunteer\ncareer that can combine search and rescue, education as well as information\ntechnology, communications, and other skills.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo above: 1st Lt Vince Gonillo, Commander, Burlington Senior Squadron (VT-002), Vermont Wing, Civil Air Patrol.
