Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award\nScholarship to Lucas Daniels of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mehul Dhillon of\nColumbus, Indiana; and the International Council of Airshows (ICAS) Foundation\nGAMA Scholarship to Matthew Leahey of Villa Rica, Georgia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGAMA is proud to award Lucas, Mehul and Matthew\nscholarships to support their aviation-related educational journeys. They each\nshow extraordinary promise and have bold visons for shaping the future of\naviation. Daniels was a part of the 2020 GAMA Aviation Design Challenge\nfirst-place team. As part of his Eagle Scout project, he constructed a brick\nmemorial flag pavilion for the Marietta Aviation History and Technology Center\nin Marietta, Georgia. He was president of his high school flying club and built\na flight simulator to grow student interest in aviation, especially for\nstudents who could not fly due to limited financial resources. Daniels has set\na career goal of becoming a professional pilot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dhillon.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18665\" width=\"341\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dhillon.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dhillon-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><figcaption><em>Mehul Dhillon<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stimpson Scholarship winner Mehul Dhillon graduated from Columbus\nNorth High School in Columbus, Indiana, and will be attending Purdue University\nto major in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Dhillon was the Cadet\nCommander for his local Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program, where he led\nsuccessful recruitment outreach efforts. Additionally, he led an AviationNation\nassembly of a Van\u2019s Aircraft RV-12 and mentors students coming into the\nprogram. Dhillon has set a career goal of designing and mass manufacturing\nrenewable energy general aviation aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ICAS Foundation GAMA Scholarship winner Matthew Leahey is\nenrolled at the Georgia Northwestern Technical College, where he is majoring in\nAviation Maintenance Technology. He says his passion for aviation maintenance\nmotivates him to learn more and think critically. In addition to his academic\nsuccess, Leahey volunteers as a youth leader at his church. Leahey is excited\nabout his future as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician and has set a career\ngoal of obtaining his Inspection Authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Edward W. Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award Scholarship is awarded each year to deserving high school seniors pursuing studies in aviation. GAMA offers this $2,000 scholarship as part of its commitment to workforce development and advancing careers in general aviation. Scholarship applicants are evaluated on academic achievements, involvement in extra-curricular activities and an essay on their interest in pursuing a career in general aviation. The Scholarship is named in honor of a GAMA founder and past president \u2013 Edward W. Stimpson. For more information about the Edward W. Scholarship recipients receive $2000 for tuition assistance from the unique partnership between GAMA and the ICAS Foundation, which each entity equally funds. It is the goal of the scholarship to assist high-caliber individuals in obtaining the education needed to become effective leaders in the aviation industry. Applicants are evaluated on their academic record, extracurricular activities within their school and community, and an essay on their aviation career goals.
