{"id":18568,"date":"2021-06-01T12:32:36","date_gmt":"2021-06-01T12:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18568"},"modified":"2021-06-01T12:32:38","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T12:32:38","slug":"vertiport-fire-safety-standards-under-development-by-nfpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/vertiport-fire-safety-standards-under-development-by-nfpa\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Vertiport Fire Safety Standards Under Development by NFPA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recently\nannounced a change to the revision cycle for NFPA 418, Standard for Heliports,\nfrom 5-years to 3-years.&nbsp; This change\nmoves the previous cycle for the next revision of this standard from the Fall\nof 2025 to the Fall of 2023.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change is in direct response to a request submitted by\nNFPA-418\u2019s technical committees to the NFPA Standards Council in an effort to\nsupport the development of \u201cVertiport\u201d standards for the burgeoning electric\nvertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) industry.&nbsp;\nThe 2021 edition of NFPA 418 (recently released) includes a new reserved\nchapter, Chapter-11, entitled Vertiports and Vertistops. The current version is\naccessible for free in a \u2018Read-Only\u2019 format on the NFPA website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, a task group has been formed to review these\nnew technologies and propose new language for the next draft cycle.&nbsp; Rex Alexander, president of Five-Alpha LLC\nand representative for the Vertical Flight Society, where he serves as the\ninfrastructure advisor, will be leading these efforts as the task group\u2019s\nchair.&nbsp; As such, the NFPA is now\naccepting public input and public comments through January 5, 2022 to help\ncreate the specific requirements for electric\/hybrid aircraft infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested in becoming members of the NFPA-418\nstandards committee and being involved in the development and deliberation of\nthese new standards are encouraged to submit their application to the NFPA for\nconsideration.&nbsp; Information for applying\nto the committee can be found on the NFPA website at https:\/\/www.nfpa.org under\nthe NFPA-418 technical committee tab.
