{"id":18565,"date":"2021-06-01T12:18:24","date_gmt":"2021-06-01T12:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18565"},"modified":"2021-06-01T12:18:25","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T12:18:25","slug":"piper-aircraft-to-sponsor-womens-air-race-classic-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/florida\/piper-aircraft-to-sponsor-womens-air-race-classic-team\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Piper Aircraft to Sponsor Women\u2019s Air Race Classic Team"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Piper Aircraft announced that it is sponsoring a team of\ndedicated aviators for the 2021 Air Race Classic.&nbsp; The Piper sponsored team, named \u201cTres\nAviadoras\u201d consists of three passionate aviators who seek to inspire and\nchampion women in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s race will be an Air Derby format, where participants are able to choose their own 5-leg, one-day route. Team members, Elise Wheelock, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purflygirl.com\/\">Captain Olga Custodio<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captainshults.com\/\">Captain Tammie Jo Shults<\/a>, will launch their route from Boerne, TX the second week of June. The team will fly a normally aspirated, piston powered, Piper Pilot 100i \u2013 the newest addition to the Piper trainer product line up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The oldest of its kind, the Air Race Classic has long been\nthe lead event in women\u2019s air racing. With pilots ranging in age from 17 to 90\nyears old, the diverse group of participants represent a wide range of\nbackgrounds, career groups, and flight experience.&nbsp; Each of these participants play a critical\nfunction as role models for future aviators.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRole models, like Elise, Tammie Jo and Olga have each led\nthe charge with their own list of \u201cfirsts\u201d in our industry\u201d, said Jackie\nCarlon, Senior Director of Marketing for Piper Aircraft. \u201cThis team truly\nembraces the legacy that past female aviators have created and they themselves\nhave helped pave the way for a new generation of aviators. Young females need\nto continue to see more examples of successful women throughout the aviation\nindustry \u2013 flying aircraft, working on airplanes as aviation maintenance\ntechnicians, and leading global airline operations to inspire and motivate them\n\u2013 it is up to us to continue to mentor the next generation of aviators.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am honored to have the opportunity to participate in this\nyear\u2019s Air Race. I am excited to fly alongside these aviation legends, who are\nalso my role models\u201d, said Elise Wheelock, Piper Aircraft Fleet Sales\nRepresentative. \u201cOlga and Tammie Jo have inspired me personally and have helped\nfemale pilots everywhere by paving the way with their drive and enthusiasm for\naviation.
