{"id":18493,"date":"2021-05-25T13:01:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T13:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18493"},"modified":"2021-05-25T13:01:07","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T13:01:07","slug":"canada-investing-in-safety-at-airports-in-alberta-and-manitoba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/canada-investing-in-safety-at-airports-in-alberta-and-manitoba\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Canada Investing in Safety at Airports in Alberta and Manitoba"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Honorable Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative\nfor the Prairies, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, the Honorable Omar\nAlghabra, has announced that the Government of Canada is making important\nsafety investments at airports in Alberta and Manitoba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Transport Canada&#8217;s Airports Capital Assistance\nProgram (ACAP), the Government of Canada will provide over $20 million to\nairports in Alberta and 21.9 million to Manitoba aiports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects at Alberta airports include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Fort Chipewyan<\/strong> &#8211; Rehabilitation of airside pavement &#8211; $11,021,416<\/li><li><strong>Grande Prairie<\/strong> &#8211; Replacement of generator and airport signage &#8211; $612,871, Replacement of sand storage shed &#8211; $134,680<\/li><li><strong>Lethbridge<\/strong> &#8211; Rehabilitation of airfield pavement &#8211; $7,379,719<\/li><li><strong>Lloydminster<\/strong> &#8211; Purchase of a de-icing trailer &#8211; $105,000<\/li><li><strong>Medicine Hat<\/strong> &#8211; Rehabilitation of airfield electrical system &#8211; $957,241<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2021-2022, Transport Canada has allocated ACAP funding\nto 63 airports for 86 safety-related projects, including runway and taxiway\nrepairs\/rehabilitation, lighting enhancements, purchasing snow clearing\nequipment and firefighting vehicles and installing wildlife fencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We know how vital airports are to urban centres and\nremote communities,\u201d said Carr. \u201cThe investment our government is making will\nhelp ensure continued safe and reliable airport operations for residents, many\nof whom depend on their local airports not only for personal travel and business,\nbut also for community resupply of essential goods and access to routine and\nemergency medical care in larger centres. This is part of how we build stronger\nmore resilient and inclusive communities across Canada.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety-related projects for airports in Manitoba are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Flin Flon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Replacement of sand storage shed &#8211; $287,071<\/li><li>Replacement of airport beacon to better identify\nthe airport&#8217;s location to pilots at night &#8211; $16,088<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gods Lake Narrows<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rehabilitation of airside surfaces and\nelectrical systems &#8211; $12,872,635<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lac Brochet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Installation of wildlife control fencing &#8211;\n$1,156,265<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Red Sucker Lake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Installation of wildlife control fencing &#8211;\n$1,000,203<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shamattawa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rehabilitation of airside surfaces &#8211; $6,282,716<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thompson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Purchase of a sweeper to assist with the\nessential clearing of ice and snow from airside surfaces &#8211; $355,680<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the Airports Capital Assistance Program started in\n1995, the Government of Canada has invested over $1.1 billion for 1,088\nprojects at 199 airports across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Honorable Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative for the Prairies, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, the Honorable Omar Alghabra, has announced that the Government of Canada is making important safety investments at airports in Alberta and Manitoba.
