{"id":18447,"date":"2021-05-16T23:26:20","date_gmt":"2021-05-16T23:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18447"},"modified":"2021-05-16T23:26:21","modified_gmt":"2021-05-16T23:26:21","slug":"skiatook-municipal-airport-opens-new-runway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/oklahoma\/skiatook-municipal-airport-opens-new-runway\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Skiatook Municipal Airport Opens New Runway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Skiatook Municipal Airport hosted a ribbon-cutting\nceremony on Friday, May 14, in honor of the airport\u2019s new 3,000-foot runway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $2 million project began in 2020 with reconstruction of\nthe existing asphalt runway with concrete and the upgrading of the existing\nstake mounted runway edge lights to higher quality base mounted fixtures. The\ngrant also included funding for an obstruction survey to aid in the development\nof new Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument approaches at both ends of\nthe runway. The project, included in the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission\u2019s\n(OAC) Five-Year Airport Construction Program, provides better safety to the\nusers of the airport while continuing to improve the economic impact for the\nCity of Skiatook and Osage and Tulsa Counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skiatook-runway.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18449\" width=\"318\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skiatook-runway.jpg 537w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skiatook-runway-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe new runway at Skiatook Municipal Airport will be a huge\nasset for this community\u2019s economic growth,\u201d said Gov. Kevin Stitt. \u201cIt will\nattract new companies and retail development projects, improve the quality of\nlife for residents and businesses owners, and continue the development of our\nstate\u2019s overall airport system which is critical to compete as a Top Ten\nState.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Stitt served as the keynote and led the ceremonial\nribbon cutting signifying the optimistic future of both the Skiatook Municipal\nAirport, the City of Skiatook and the greater Tulsa area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Master of Ceremonies Secretary of Transportation Tim Gatz\nhas been active in the support of the OAC\u2019s aggressive efforts to improve\npavement quality throughout the 108 public-use airports located within the\nstate system of airports. The OAC\u2019s pavement management program forecasted a pavement\ncondition index (PCI) rating of 33 for Skiatook\u2019s runway 17\/35 for year 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis airport\u2019s runway pavement was exhibiting medium and\nhigh severity longitudinal and transverse cracks, raveling and some areas of\nbase failures,\u201d Sec. Gatz said. \u201cSince the pavement rating was significantly\nbelow 65 and experiencing rapid deterioration, this was an appropriate priority\nfor the Aeronautics Commission. Skiatook has an airport they can be proud of\nfor many years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the ribbon cutting, attendees enjoyed a\nskydive performance from Skydive Airtight and heard from additional dignitaries\nincluding Representative Sean Roberts, the Mayor of Skiatook Robin Edens, and\nState Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Ardies-at-Skiatook-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18450\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Ardies-at-Skiatook-.jpg 537w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Ardies-at-Skiatook--300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><figcaption><em>State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies participated in the ribbon cutting at the Skiatook Municipal Airport runway dedication ceremony.<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking with Mayor Forbes and the City Manager Dan Yancey\non this project has been excellent,\u201d said Ardies. \u201cThis airport has 20 based\naircraft and averages 105 aircraft operations per week, and with aviation and\naerospace as the state\u2019s second largest economic engine, this community is now\npositioned for further aero commerce and tourism.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A project of the Federal Aviation Administration, the City\nof Skiatook, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, and the airport consultant,\nCEC Corporation, the runway is now open for air traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA new runway is more than just a victory for aviators\u2014it\u2019s\nan asset for the entire community,\u201d noted U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe. \u201cSkiatook is\ngrowing in population because of their proximity to Tulsa, but the\ninfrastructure wasn\u2019t keeping up. This new runway will support economic growth\nand make it possible for more businesses to locate in the area for years to\ncome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skiatook Municipal Airport has a $1.5 million annual\neconomic impact and the airport is home to Skydive Airtight, a USPA Group\nMember skydiving facility operating since 1999. They offer three types of\ntraining for first-time jumpers including Tandem Skydiving, IAD Solo and\nAccelerated Freefall Progression.
