The last\ntime MEM held the top spot in the cargo rankings was 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 4.61 million metric tons of cargo were handled at\nMEM in 2020, an increase of 6.7% compared to 2019. MEM is the home to the FedEx\nExpress World Hub, which is responsible for about 99% of the overall cargo\nhandled at MEM and features about 450 combined arrivals and departures per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reduced passenger\ntraffic across the world, the cargo industry experienced growth in many\nlocations, including MEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACI preliminary airport cargo rankings can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/aci.aero\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/2020PrelimTop10Cargo.pdf\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe take pride in our ranking in the air cargo industry,\nwhich serves as a positive reminder of the importance of FedEx and e-commerce\nto the Mid-South\u2019s economy,\u201d said Pace Cooper, Chairman of the Board of\nCommissioners for the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. \u201cIt also\nillustrates the crucial role cargo has served during the pandemic.
