{"id":18232,"date":"2021-03-05T22:46:58","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T22:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18232"},"modified":"2021-04-22T22:49:40","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T22:49:40","slug":"2021-state-aviation-art-contest-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/oklahoma\/2021-state-aviation-art-contest-winners-announced\/%20","title":{"rendered":"2021 State Aviation Art Contest Winners Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Photo above &#8211; Elementary First Place &#8211; Chloe Childs <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission announced the names of\nstudents that placed in the Oklahoma 2021 International Aviation Art Contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state-level Aviation Art Contest, sponsored by the\nAeronautics Commission, encourages youth, ages 6 to 17, to reflect on aviation\nby designing a piece of art based on the year\u2019s chosen theme. This year\u2019s\ncontest theme was \u201cA Friendlier World with Air Sports.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great time for students to plan for aviation\ncareers,\u201d State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies said. \u201cWe believe our\nmission is more important now than ever to reach students to inspire aviation\ninterest among young minds.&nbsp; If we can\nreach them at the earliest of ages, we can guide them into STEM based education\nand aviation and aerospace careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Junior Division, ages 6 to 9, Chloe Childs, from the\nAcademy of Classical Christian Studies South Campus in Norman, took home first\nprize. This year\u2019s second-place winner in the Junior Division was Lane Ward\nfrom Ada Public School in Ada. The third place and honorable mention categories\nfor this age group were not supported by the number of entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jodessa Hamlett from Hobart, a student at Kenneth O\u2019Neal\nMiddle School took top honors in the Intermediate Division, ages 10-13. Taking\nsecond was Alan Rodriguez, and third was Harper Talley also from Kenneth O\u2019Neal\nMiddle School. Receiving an Honorable Mention in the division, Marian Winchell,\nis a homeschool student from Noble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanoss Public School\u2019s, Emma Slaton, from Ada finished atop\nthe Senior Division, ages 14-17, followed by Kaci Anderson, a student at Hobart\nHigh School in Hobart. Patience Williams took third, while Joan Willis received\nan honorable mention in the division. Both are from Ada Junior High School in\nAda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First-place winners in each of the three age categories\nreceive $200, while the second-place winners receive $150. A cash prize of $100\nis presented to students who place third, and honorable mention will receive\n$50. The top three entries in each age division are forwarded to Washington,\nD.C., where they compete nationally against other winners from the U.S. for the\nright to advance to the international competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a pilot, a civil engineer and most importantly a\nhomeschool father, I love to teach and celebrate young people who choose a path\nin life that not only improves their quality of life, but the quality of life\nfor others too! Seeing aviation thru the eyes of our youth in this year\u2019s\ncompetition clearly showed that aviation in Oklahoma has a bright future!&nbsp; Congratulations to ALL of the contestants for\ntheir hard work this year,\u201d said Matthew Ranck, P.E., C.M., CFM. with Delta\nAirport Consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judges for this year\u2019s art contest were all pilots,\nincluding State Representative Wendi Stearman, House District 11, a student\npilot; Adam Fox, El Reno Airport Manager, a private pilot with a degree in\nAviation Management; Matthew Ranck, P.E., C.M., CFM. with Delta Airport\nConsultants who also recently earned his private pilot license; and, Chase\nRutledge, a KOCO Channel 5 News helicopter pilot and journalist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It was my pleasure to join fellow aviation\nprofessionals in judging the 2021 Aviation Art Contest.
