The two-year contract with Denver Air will begin June 1\nand includes twelve weekly flights between Pierre and Denver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Denver Air, we will continue to have affordable jet\nservice,\u201d said Pierre Mayor Steve Harding. \u201cOur goal has always been to connect\ncentral South Dakota to the national air transportation system. You can get\nanywhere in the world from Denver.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new flight schedule isn\u2019t available just yet.\nHowever, under the new contract, Pierre will share six flights a week with the\nWatertown Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have shared flights with Watertown before,\u201d said\nHarding. \u201cTheir peak season and our peak season are different.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ticket prices under the Denver Air contract have not yet\nbeen announced. However, they are expected to be comparable to current ticket\nprices out of Pierre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAffordability is something the USDOT team considers when\ndetermining which airline receives an EAS contract,\u201d said Cameron Howard,\nPierre Airport Manager. \u201cI\u2019d expect one-way tickets to be in that $80 to $120\nrange.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Howard also says that, as long as people are flying\nUnited, they shouldn\u2019t need to go through security or recheck bags between\nPierre and their final destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDenver Air has an interline agreement with United,\u201d said\nHoward. \u201cIf you stay on United flights you should have a seamless transition\nbetween airports.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pierre is currently served by SkyWest Airlines through a\nUSDOT EAS contract that was originally scheduled to conclude in April. The\nUSDOT has ordered SkyWest to continue service to Pierre until Denver Air can\nbegin its contract in June. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three airlines, Boutique Air, Denver Air Connection and\nSkyWest, submitted bids for the new contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the contract holder, the USDOT has its own review\nprocess to determine if an airline will be selected to serve an EAS community.\nWhen awarded an EAS contract, commercial airlines receive a federal subsidy to\nmake air service affordable in remote communities like Pierre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new commercial airline will soon be flying into Pierre Regional Airport.
