{"id":18189,"date":"2021-04-13T00:13:31","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T00:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18189"},"modified":"2021-04-13T00:13:33","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T00:13:33","slug":"new-runway-at-oklahomas-south-grand-lake-regional-airport-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/oklahoma\/new-runway-at-oklahomas-south-grand-lake-regional-airport-opens\/%20","title":{"rendered":"New Runway at Oklahoma\u2019s South Grand Lake Regional Airport Opens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The South Grand Lake Regional Airport (SGLRA) in Ketchum,\nOK, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, April 9, in honor of the\nairport\u2019s new and expanded 5,200-foot runway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $4.58 million project began construction in 2019 and\nconsisted of widening the runway from 60 ft to 75 ft, a new asphalt runway\nsurface, and the installation visual guidance systems and LED runway edge\nlights. The project, included in the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission\u2019s\nFive-Year Airport Construction Program, provides better safety to the users of\nthe airport while continuing to improve the economic impact for the greater\nGrand Lake Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe runway expansion at South Grand Lake Regional Airport\nis another sign Oklahoma is open for business,\u201d Gov. Kevin Stitt said. \u201cAir\naccess to a community can be a deciding factor for many companies seeking a new\nor additional location. The Aeronautics Commission has directed federal funds\nand provided grants across the state, including $229K in state dollars for this\nproject, and the airport raised an incredible $229K match,&nbsp; to ensure the needs of commerce and\ncommunities are met throughout Oklahoma\u2019s air transportation facilities.\nContinuing to develop our airport system is critical to becoming a Top Ten\nstate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"539\" height=\"238\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ribbon-Cutting-South-Grand-Lake.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ribbon-Cutting-South-Grand-Lake.jpg 539w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ribbon-Cutting-South-Grand-Lake-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><figcaption><em>Ribbon Cutting Ceremony<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who attended the ribbon cutting received a first-class\nticket to the unveiling of the future of both the South Grand Lake Regional\nAirport and the Ketchum community. In addition to the ribbon cutting, attendees\nenjoyed a flyover performance by several vintage warbird military aircraft and\nheard from dignitaries including Sen. James Inhofe, Speaker Charles McCall,\nSecretary of Transportation Tim Gatz, Secretary of Commerce Scott Mueller, Sen.\nMicheal Bergstrom, Rep. Rusty Cornwell and State Director of Aeronautics\nGrayson Ardies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have been flying into the South Grand Lake Regional\nAirport for years and I am thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion\nalongside the Grand Lake community,\u201d U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe said. \u201cBusinesses,\ngovernmental agencies and recreational flyers all utilize this airport\u2014from the\nGrand River Dam Authority, DSA Aviation, K &amp; D Aviation to the Grand Aces\nOrganization. Oklahoma\u2019s thriving aviation and aerospace industries are not\ndone growing yet and I am excited to see this newly refinished runway as part\nof a larger growth opportunity for new businesses and economic growth in\nOklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaker Charles McCall emphasized, \u201cAir access to a\ncommunity can be a deciding factor for many companies seeking a new or\nadditional location. The further development of the Oklahoma Airport System is\ncritical to the cities and towns that Oklahomans call home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/South-Grand-Lake-Regional-.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18192\" width=\"255\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/South-Grand-Lake-Regional-.png 539w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/South-Grand-Lake-Regional--300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2004, nine volunteers formed a public trust to develop 54\nacres of grassland into what has now become a 105-acre jet-capable regional\nairport with almost 20 based aircraft serving the Grand Lake Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the help of volunteers, grants, and hundreds of\nsupporters making continuous donations, this airport has not only come to\nfruition, but has been able to prosper for nearly 17 years,\u201d SGLRA Trust\nAuthority Chairman Brent Howard said. \u201cTo date, more than $500,000 has been\nraised from in-kind donations and more than $1 million has come from cash\ndonations and fundraising events, which makes the Authority incredibly grateful\nfor this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With improvements of an expanded fuel ramp, runway lights,\nand GPS all weather approach, this Craig County airport has reached a new level\nof 24\/7 operation for business and personal aircraft, including coast to coast\nflights and destination leased aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe heart and dedication of the citizenry of Ketchum makes\nthis airport unique,\u201d Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation Tim Gatz said. \u201cThey\nhave labored, raised funds, and dedicated their personal time and resources for\nthe betterment of aviation in their community and are creating future pilots at\ntheir flight school, hosting on-airport businesses, and are the model for\npublic\/private partnerships.
