{"id":18156,"date":"2021-04-06T21:23:16","date_gmt":"2021-04-06T21:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18156"},"modified":"2021-04-06T21:23:18","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T21:23:18","slug":"cyberpatriot-crowns-national-champions-in-virtual-national-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aviation-education\/cyberpatriot-crowns-national-champions-in-virtual-national-finals\/%20","title":{"rendered":"CyberPatriot Crowns National Champions in Virtual National Finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Air Force Association (AFA) announced today winners of\nthe National Finals Competition for the CyberPatriot XIII season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CyberPatriot XIII National Finals Competition was held\nvirtually on March 19-21, 2021. This is the second year that the finals\ntransitioned to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition,\npresented by the Northrop Grumman Foundation, puts teams of high school and\nmiddle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked\nwith managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online\ncompetition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are\ntasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining\ncritical services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The season started with 4,801 teams registered to compete\nand the field was narrowed to just 28 teams that advanced to the National\nFinals Competition. In the virtual National Finals, teams participated in the\nTCP\/IP (the Career Portal\/Industry Perspectives) career exploration event and\ncompeted in the Northrop Grumman Foundation Network Security Master Challenge,\nthe Cisco NetAcad Challenge, and the AT&amp;T competition component. Winners\nwere announced during the Awards Ceremony hosted on Sunday, March 21st. The top\noverall teams in the Open and All Service Divisions received scholarships from\nNorthrop Grumman; and the top Open and All Service Division teams in the Cisco\nNetAcad Challenge received scholarships from Cisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team CyberAegis Cobalt from Del Norte High School in San\nDiego, CA won the national championship in the Open Division, Team Runtime\nTerror from Troy High School in Fullerton, CA won the national championship in\nthe All Service Division, and Team CyberAegis Technetium from Oak Valley Middle\nSchool in San Diego, CA won the national championship in the Middle School\nDivision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The thirteenth season of CyberPatriot was remarkable\nin many respects. Not only did the competition draw nearly 5,000 teams in the\nmiddle of a highly disruptive and tragic pandemic, but the championship was as\ntightly contested as any in our history,&#8221; said Bernie Skoch, the\nCyberPatriot National Commissioner. &#8220;We congratulate our new national\nchampions, and we commend all who competed under these trying circumstances. We\nextend our deepest gratitude to the Northrop Grumman Foundation and our other\ngenerous benefactors for continuing to invest in our nation&#8217;s future by building\nthe cyber skills pipeline.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are witnessing an enduring shift in how information\ntechnology is being used to stay in touch and accomplish everyday tasks \u2014 which\nunderscores the critical role of cyber security. Scholarships\nare awarded to each member of the first place, runner-up, and third place teams\nin the two divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cisco also awarded a total of $53,000 to the Open and All\nService Cisco NetAcad Challenge winners of CyberPatriot XIII.&nbsp; This is the second year that Cisco has\nawarded scholarships to the Cisco NetAcad Challenge bringing the total\nscholarships awarded to over $100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, Evan Huang from U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps Sacramento\nDivision and Justin Lin, from Del Norte High School were recognized as Cyber\nAll-Americans in recognition of their extraordinary achievement of reaching the\nNational Finals Competition in each of their four high school years. Justin Lin\nis the first Open Division Cyber All-American in CyberPatriot history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CyberPatriot, the nation&#8217;s largest and fastest growing youth\ncyber education program, is AFA&#8217;s flagship STEM program dedicated to\nstrengthening cyber skills among students. The program features the National\nYouth Cyber Defense Competition for high school and middle school students, AFA\nCyberCamps, an Elementary School Cyber Education Initiative, the Cyber\nEducation Literature Series, and CyberGenerations, a program promoting senior\ncitizen cyber awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CyberPatriot is presented by the Northrop Grumman\nFoundation.
