{"id":18106,"date":"2021-04-01T22:41:56","date_gmt":"2021-04-01T22:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=18106"},"modified":"2021-04-01T22:42:26","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T22:42:26","slug":"improvements-funded-at-10-north-carolina-airports-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/north-carolina\/improvements-funded-at-10-north-carolina-airports-2\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Improvements Funded at 10 North Carolina Airports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The North Carolina Board of Transportation has approved\nstate and federal funding for safety and airfield improvement projects at 10\nNorth Carolina airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State funds totaling $12.75 million have been awarded for\nvarious projects that help the airports increase capacity, attract new jobs and\nbusinesses to their communities, and improve safety for pilots and passengers.\nThe board approved the funds during its March 4 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Moore County Airport, funds will go towards a full\noverhaul of the exiting airfield lighting system and signage, which had begun\nto fade with age. With the United States Golf Association moving their\nheadquarters to the region and the U.S. Open Golf Tournament now coming to\nPinehurst on a regular basis, airport manager Scotty Malta sees the need for\nthe airport to keep up with the region\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo keep our customers safe, we need to make sure our\nairfield lighting is fully operational and up-to-date,\u201d Malta said, adding that\nthe new lighting system will be entirely LED, which helps the airport\u2019s bottom\nline while shining brighter than traditional bulbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe switch to full-LED lighting will also reduce our\noperational costs compared to traditional lights, since LEDs don\u2019t burn out,\nand allow us to invest even more in the future growth of this airport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funds the N.C. Board of Transportation approved are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$1.08 million in state funds for airfield\nlighting rehabilitation at Asheboro Regional Airport,<\/li><li>$2.79 million in state funds for taxilane, apron\nand site development at Elizabeth City Regional Airport,<\/li><li>$3 million in additional state funds for the construction\nof an aircraft apron at Harnett Regional Jetport in Lillington,<\/li><li>$135,000 in state funds for phase II design of\nthe apron rehabilitation at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport,<\/li><li>$1.66 million in additional state funds for the\nconstruction of airfield lighting and signage at Moore County Airport in\nCarthage,<\/li><li>$85,000 in additional state funds for taxilane\nsite development at Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport,<\/li><li>$300,000 in state funds to update the Airport\nLayout Plan at Tri-County Airport near Ahoskie,<\/li><li>$3.7 million in state funds for apron pavement\nrehabilitation at Wayne Executive Jetport near Goldsboro.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18107\" width=\"212\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image.png 459w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021-NC-The-State-of-Aviation-cover-image-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>North Carolina\u2019s 72 public airports serve as vital economic engines connecting people and business enterprises with the world. Airports and aviation-related industries contribute more than $61 billion to North Carolina\u2019s economy each year, according to the 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/Pages\/state-of-aviation.aspx\">State of Aviation report.<\/a> They support 373,000 jobs, generate more than $2.5 billion in state and local tax revenue, and provide more than $15 billion in personal income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funds awarded will be distributed by the NCDOT Division\nof Aviation, and do not necessarily represent the total cost of a project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The North Carolina Board of Transportation has approved state and federal funding for safety and airfield improvement projects at 10 North Carolina airports.
