Now in its\n8th year, the annual international student design competition challenges\nstudents to envision a forward-thinking concept for an airport of the future,\nand in turn, stimulate innovative design in terminal architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Fentress Global Challenge is a great opportunity for\nyoung designers to bring broad ideas and creative perspectives to the table\nwhile spearheading innovation in airport terminal architecture,\u201d said FGC\nFounder Curtis Fentress, FAIA, RIBA. \u201cWe are excited to see how students push\nthe limits of architectural design this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s competition brief encourages students to\nreimagine the terminal building in the year 2100, siting the new terminal at\neither an existing airport of their choosing, or at a location where an airport\ndoes not yet exist. The latter option calls for participants to consider a city\nwhere an airport could serve as a catalyst for economic and social development.\nStudents\u2019 designs must consider several aspects, including local context,\nevolving technologies, sustainability and resiliency, security, wellbeing,\nmobility, urbanization, globalization, project feasibility, and the overall\npassenger experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The First Place Winner will receive $15,000 USD\u2014the largest\nprize in FGC\u2019s history. Four additional winners will receive smaller cash\nprizes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FGC is open to graduate and undergraduate students currently\npursuing architecture or engineering degrees in an accredited university\nprogram, as well as recent graduates (within the last four years) with a degree\nin architecture or engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competition Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Competition Announcement: February 15, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Design Submission Deadline: October 1, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortlist Announcement: November 1, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners Announcement: December 1, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The First Place Winner: $15,000 USD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second Place: $3,000 USD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third Place: $2,000 USD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two People\u2019s Choice Awards: $1,000 USD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Jury<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2021 FGC will be judged in two stages. A first-round\njury of industry experts will shortlist fifteen (15) designs from which the\nsecond-round jury will select the three finalists.
