The Award acknowledges the\nSquadron\u2019s success in attaining specific goals in several benchmarks, such as\ncadet achievement, adult leadership, summer encampment attendance, squadron\ngrowth, annual retention and participation in STEM projects, aerospace\neducation, emergency services training and aviation activities (e.g., glider\norientation flights).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Squadron Deputy Commander for Cadets, Major Barbara Leary,\nstated, \u201cThe Squadron is gratified for the national recognition of the hard\nwork and commitment of all our cadets and adult volunteers, even more so during\nthe historic challenges of the pandemic in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Mountain Composite Squadron currently has 21 Cadets\nand 8 senior members on its roster. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStrong Cadet programming is a pillar of the Vermont Wing,\nas it has been for the 80 year history of the Civil Air Patrol,\u201d said Col Tom\nCarello, Vermont Wing Commander. \u201cEach of our Composite Squadrons are\nchallenged every year to achieve this recognition. We are proud that the Green\nMountain Composite Squadron, under the leadership of Major Barbara Leary and\n1st Lt Michael French, has been judged to be one the best cadet units in Civil\nAir Patrol nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November the Vermont Wing announced that two Cadets from\nthe Green Mountain Composite Squadron, Cadet 2nd Lieutenant (C\/2nd Lt) Ishia\nMasada and C\/2nd Lt Hunter Smith, had been awarded the prestigious Billy\nMitchell Award to two Cadets, Only 15 percent of CAP Cadets nationwide earn the\nMitchell Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) announced today that the Green Mountain Composite Squadron (VT-006) has recently been awarded the National Quality Cadet Unit Award.
