The improvements are expected to start this March\/April and\nbe finished by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant is being funded as part of the supplemental\nfunding provided under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020 and the\nCoronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for U.S. Senator Richard Shelby\u2019s support\nand his commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of airports across\nthe state,\u201d said Chris Curry, Mobile Airport Authority President. \u201cThis project\nwill allow us to further our mission of providing premium air-service to the\nresidents of Mobile and Baldwin County in a safe and secure manner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Runway 14\/32 is the primary runway at BFM, and it serves the\nMobile Aeroplex at Brookley, which includes the Airbus Final Assembly Line\nfacility, VTMAE MRO facilities, Signature Flight FBO, and Terminal One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The runway was originally constructed in 1929 and extended\nin 1955. It\u2019s been rehabilitated and upgraded several times since then, most\nrecently in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mobile Airport Authority owns and operates Mobile\nRegional Airport (MOB), Mobile Downtown Airport (BFM) and the Brookley Aeroplex\ngenerating $1.8 Billion in economic value for the state of Alabama.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mobile Regional Airport is served by Delta\nAirlines, American Airlines and United Airlines providing service to four major\nhubs: Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte and Houston.&nbsp;\nMOB is also home to Airbus Space and Defense. BFM is located next to the\nPort of Mobile and the unparalleled geographical location supports the\nAuthority\u2019s multimodal ability to bring maritime, rail trucking and aviation\ntogether in one location.
