In addition, the Canadian\nfirm\u2019s just-released 2020-2029 Pilot Demand Outlook says more than 260,000 new\npilots will be needed worldwide over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While CAE\u2019s forecast acknowledges that demand for pilots has\ndecreased significantly during 2020, it expects the active pilot population to\nreturn to 2019 levels in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAE-Pilot-Demand-Outlook-2020-2-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17490\" width=\"308\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAE-Pilot-Demand-Outlook-2020-2-scaled.jpeg 480w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAE-Pilot-Demand-Outlook-2020-2-scaled-250x300.jpeg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the 2020-2029 CAE Pilot Demand Outlook,\nretirement and attrition are expected to continue to be a challenge for the\ncivil aviation industry as air travel recovers progressively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is expected to drive an acute demand for pilots,\nresulting in an estimated short-term need for approximately 27,000 new\nprofessional pilots starting in late 2021,\u201d says the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAE says age-based retirements, attrition and fleet growth\nof 11,000 additional business and commercial aircraft over the next decade will\nrestore long-term pilot demand. Pilots over 50 years of age represent 38% of\nthe total civil aviation pilot pool, and 3.8% of commercial pilots are expected\nto retire or leave the profession every year over the next 10 years, according\nto the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nick Leontidis, CAE Group President, Civil Aviation Training\nSolutions, said, \u201cWith the 2020-2029 CAE Pilot Demand Outlook, we hope to arm\nthe industry with the insights that will help the global aviation community\nunderstand, rethink, and learn about how to continue to build and grow the\nsupply of highly qualified pilots as the industry emerges from the downturn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDisruptive events are opportunities to innovate and\ncollaborate.
