{"id":17414,"date":"2021-01-18T13:05:31","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T13:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=17414"},"modified":"2021-01-18T13:05:33","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T13:05:33","slug":"pandemic-leads-to-52-decline-in-north-dakota-airline-passengers-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/north-dakota\/pandemic-leads-to-52-decline-in-north-dakota-airline-passengers-in-2020\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Pandemic Leads to 52% Decline in North Dakota Airline Passengers in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>North Dakota\u2019s eight commercial service airports finished\ncalendar year 2020 with a statewide total of 572,093 airline passenger\nboardings.&nbsp; This is a decrease of 619,476\npassengers or an 52% decrease from 2019 and is the lowest passenger count that\nthe state has recorded since calendar year 2003. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Dakota passenger numbers have been adversely affected\nsince the beginning of the pandemic when the state experienced an immediate 95%\npercent decline in passenger numbers during the month of April.&nbsp; Since that time, the state has been trending\nin a positive direction and has recovered to approximately 50% of pre-pandemic\nlevels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent growth in demand has encouraged airlines to begin\nslowly adding back flights and seat capacity to our airports.&nbsp; Today, North Dakota still has a high level of\nair service availability based upon historical standards as the state\u2019s\nairports still provide the public with 10 non-stop destinations (three are\nseasonal). All eight of the commercial service airports in North Dakota also\ncontinue to provide their communities with reliable jet service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur airports rose to the challenge that this past year\nbrought for the aviation industry which resulted in significant negative\nimpacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d&nbsp;\nstated Kyle Wanner, Executive Director of the North Dakota Aeronautics\nCommission.&nbsp; \u201cOur airports never closed\nand they quickly worked to implement recommended mitigations to help ensure\nthat a safe environment exists for those who need to travel.
