{"id":17344,"date":"2021-01-09T20:18:27","date_gmt":"2021-01-09T20:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=17344"},"modified":"2021-01-09T20:18:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-09T20:18:28","slug":"faa-and-nasa-sign-mou-to-strengthen-partnership-in-commercial-space-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-and-nasa-sign-mou-to-strengthen-partnership-in-commercial-space-activities\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA and NASA Sign MOU to Strengthen Partnership in Commercial Space Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) signed a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/space\/legislation_regulation_guidance\/media\/FAA_MOU_signed_by_NASA_and_FAA.pdf\">memorandum of understanding<\/a> (MOU) to support commercial space activities related to the transport of government and non-government passengers, cargo, and payloads for both orbital and suborbital missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis FAA-NASA collaboration at the Administrator level will\nadvance America\u2019s commercial space sector, aid science and technology, and help\ncoordinate U.S. national space policies,\u201d said U.S. Transportation Secretary\nElaine L. Chao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA and NASA have shared interests in creating a robust\ncommercial space industry to achieve safe, reliable, and cost-effective access\nto space, and enhancing the competitiveness, safety and affordability of\nAmerican aerospace capabilities. In addition, the partnership is critical to\nachieving the goals and objectives of multiple U.S. national space policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe partnership between the FAA and NASA is vital to\ncontinue the growth, innovation and safety of commercial space operations, and\nmaintain the pre-eminence of U.S. leadership in the aerospace sector,\u201d said FAA\nAdministrator Steve Dickson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the MOU, the FAA and NASA will build a stable launch\nand reentry framework for the U.S. space industry that is transparent, and\navoids conflicting requirements and multiple sets of standards.
