{"id":17269,"date":"2020-12-29T13:43:50","date_gmt":"2020-12-29T13:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=17269"},"modified":"2020-12-29T13:43:53","modified_gmt":"2020-12-29T13:43:53","slug":"faa-grants-nata-extension-of-existing-relief-and-new-check-airman-exemption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-grants-nata-extension-of-existing-relief-and-new-check-airman-exemption\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Grants NATA Extension of Existing Relief and New Check Airman Exemption"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) was\npleased to announce to its members the granting of COVID-related relief extending\ndeadlines for proficiency and competency checks and completion of crew\ntraining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Association worked to secure a vital exemption, FAA\nExemption No. 18685, extending the timeframe for a check airman to conduct a\nproficiency or competency check under the observation of an FAA inspector or an\naircrew designated examiner from 24 to 36 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese exemptions highlight NATA\u2019s ongoing work with the FAA\nand the industry to ensure the continued ability for our members to safely\noperate throughout the public health crisis,\u201d stated NATA Vice President of\nRegulatory Affairs John McGraw. \u201cWe could not be more grateful to the FAA for\ntheir swift, innovative, and exceptional response to mitigating unconventional\ncircumstances that greatly impact our members and the industry.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA is granting the requested relief to NATA members and\nother part 135 air carriers and operators that submit a Letter of Intent as\ndescribed in the exemption. In making its determination, the agency recognized\nthe immense value of part 135 air carriers and operators to remote communities\nand the essential services they provide in the movement of people, goods, and\nmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In filing the petition, NATA highlighted risk mitigation\nmeasures for consideration that would maintain at least an equivalent level of\nsafety with current operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA has also granted a NATA petition to extend relief on\ncrew training deadlines previously provided in Exemption No. 18510C. The new\nExemption No. 18510D&nbsp; provides limited\nrelief from the timeframes for completing recurrent training and qualification\nrequirements for ground personnel and crewmembers through March 31, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Importantly, the extension does not expand upon the relief\nalready provided to ground personnel and crewmembers with training and\nqualification requirements due through December 31, 2020.
