Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences following a\nnational search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"170\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Robert-Kraus.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17260\"\/><figcaption><em>Robert Kraus<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Kraus currently serves as Associate Dean, Flight and Operations\nand Professor in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at Kent State\nUniversity in Ohio. As such, he helps lead the College\u2019s professional flight\nprograms and oversees all aspects of its airport operations, including\nmaintenance and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kraus joined Kent State following a 28-year career in the\nU.S. Air Force. His final assignment was in Paris, France, where he was Head of\nthe Operations and Coordination Division in the NATO Science and Technology\nOrganization Collaboration Support Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His prior assignments include serving as the Wing Chief of\nStaff at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, Science and Engineering Division Chief\nat the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Chief Scientist and Director of\nResearch at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Assistant Professor of Aeronautics at\nthe U.S. Air Force Academy, Operations Officer of the Air Mobility Command Test\nand Evaluation Squadron, C-130 Experimental Test Pilot at Edwards Air Force\nBase and C-141B Strategic Airlift Pilot at Travis Air Force Base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his career, he earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star\nMedal, and Meritorious Service Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Air Force Academy graduate, Kraus has more than 3,300\nhours in 35 aircraft as an aircraft commander, instructor and evaluator pilot,\nas well as an experimental and operational test pilot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/debbie-storrs.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17261\" width=\"129\" height=\"193\"\/><figcaption><em>Debbie Storrs<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re so pleased to welcome Dr. Kraus to the John D.\nOdegard School of Aerospace Sciences, UND, and the State of North Dakota,\u201d said\nDebbie Storrs, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at UND.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe brings a wide range of experience spanning higher\neducation teaching and administration, flight and operations management, and\nresearch leadership experience.&nbsp; I\u2019m\nparticularly excited about his commitment to student success, his interest and\nsupport for all departments and flight operations in the School, and his\nability to further research opportunities within the School and collaboratively\nacross the university.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Honored and humbled<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/andrew-armacost.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17262\" width=\"128\" height=\"192\"\/><figcaption><em>Andy Armacost<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>UND President Andy Armacost joined Storrs in welcoming Kraus\nto the University. \u201cWe are thrilled to have Bob Kraus join us at UND and to\nlead the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences,\u201d Armacost said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis array of experience and achievement is a perfect match for\nthe innovative spirit and rich history of the school. He will undoubtedly lead\nthe students, faculty, and staff to even greater heights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kraus graduated from the Air Force Academy with a degree in\naeronautical engineering. He earned his Master\u2019s Degree in mechanical\nengineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in aerospace\nengineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And across his broad Air Force and civilian aerospace\ncareers, Kraus has overseen projects and programs in many of the areas that the\nOdegard School now focuses on. For example, as Chief Scientist and Director of\nResearch at the Air Force Academy, Kraus oversaw the execution of the Academy\u2019s\n$60M-plus research programs, coordinated the activities of 21 research centers\nand institutes, and leveraged funding from more than 150 government and\nindustry partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Flight Test Consultant for Golden Arm Associates in\nHenderson, Nev., Kraus trained the company that was tasked with testing the Air\nForce\u2019s remotely piloted aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And as Assistant Professor of Aeronautics and Director of\nFlight Test at the Air Force Academy, Kraus consistently was rated in the top\n10 percent of all faculty by students, and was selected as the Aeronautics\nOutstanding Academy Educator (#1 of 22) in 2003-04.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am honored and humbled to be selected for this position,\nand I look forward to joining the outstanding faculty, staff, and students in\nAerospace Sciences and the University of North Dakota community,\u201d Kraus said\nabout his new appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe School has a long and successful history of educating\nand training students, conducting research and supporting the economic development\nof the region that I hope to build upon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Odegard School, Kraus will succeed Dean Paul\nLindseth, who is stepping down to return to his position as professor within\nthe Department of Aviation. Kraus will begin his term on Jan. 15, 2021.\nLindseth has graciously agreed to serve as Dean through Jan. 14, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPaul Lindseth has served as Dean of the John D.
